Statin doses?

I take 20mg of Rosuvastatin daily and my cholesterol and Hdl are very good. My doctor prescribed 20mg a day but I heard from a friend that its better to take at least 40mg a day as statins keep the vessels pliable and dont just help with cholesterol reduction. I dont like the side effects of statins and I dont get them so much on the 20mg.

I,m with you on not liking side effects, I take Atorvastatin (Lipitor) and with the Drs agreement cut the dose from 10mg/day to 5mg/day and still maintained a low cholesterol and Hdl - no rise at all .

I never had any side effects with statins untill starting Flecainide.

Statins are a very emotive subject and I'm sue you will get lots of opinions. With my doctor's agreement I stopped all together after about 20 years due to increased leg pain.

That s interesting Bob, I'm considering requesting to come off or vastly reduce my statin,as my last blood test was 2.5 .( It was 11.5 when first prescribed) Significant lifestyle changes have been made too,but I do get lo t s of muscle pain in my legs.Didn't realise it could be statins,thought might be bisoprolol!

Another reason to get off statins! 80mg a day of Avorstatin seems overkill...

Best to check with your prescribed I think,perhaps do a little research on effects and reaso n s for taking these first,always good to be informed so you can ask the questions!
