Good morning all

You may recall that about 10 days ago I posted a link to the below article regarding a new technique for treating AF that had been published in the Mail on Sunday.

Whilst generally of interest to our forum there was a glaring error in the report in that they described Flecainide as a 'blood thinner' not a rate control drug.

I wrote to the Daily Mail comments and corrections department and I am pleased to say that I had the following response:

Thank you for your email which has been forwarded on to me to reply.

You are of course quite correct; unfortunately our reporter made a mistake which was not picked up by the surgeon advising her. We have since amended the wording and added the following footnote:

This article has been amended since publication to describe Flecainide as a heart rhythm control drug rather than a blood thinning drug, as initially indicated.

Many thanks again for taking the trouble to contact us; it is very much appreciated.

Kind regards,

John Wellington

Good for you Pete - it makes me distrust any article which has been so poorly scrutinised.

Well done Pete but nothing is a blood thinner anyway is it.? lol

I never take much the Mail publishes to heart without checking my own sources as they often go for "the story" rather than hard facts.

My rather biased view of all newspapers is that they tell deliberate lies in order to sell copies, wherever they can get away with it. Of course, this was not an example of that, so they would be willing to correct it.

Some are rather more subtle than others, in this, and bend the truth less. This is why I will never pay for a newspaper, although I have to rely on a broad spectrum of news from all sources to stay in touch with what is really happening in the world.
