Has anyone read the article in the Mail regarding AF/ Stroke/ Warfarin? I can certainly relate to the lack of information given out, as reported by the lady from Berkshire interviewed, as well as input from the AFA. Would'nt normally recommend this paper however this piece well worth a read.

Good guess Ian. Yes it's me. Thanks for the kind words .Trying to shout from the rooftops ! Knowledge is power and until I found this site was ignorant of too many facts that I should have been aware of ,hopefully the article might ring a bell with someone else in a similar position and prevent an unnecessary stroke.
Something that I know many of you on this site do your utmost to help and inform others.

Why does money have to be the cause of more suffering ? It really is about time that the problems we AF'rs go through is considered more than enough reason for us to be given the medication that will help keep us safer from strokes. I have seen the result first hand of the damage strokes can do.
There isn't ANY reason to leave anyone at more risk from strokes ; if this country is prepared to give anyone free surgery or free medication then everyone should be treated with the appropriate treatment. Prevention is definitely better than trying to cure the extra problems caused by a stroke.
mini rant over.....

Warfarin is a pain but I am more than willing to be on it since 1992
I cured my warfarin "phobia" by buying a CoaguChek. Now all I have to do is defeat the desire to check my INR levels every 5 mins.............!
I think I may well have to buy one of these CoaguCheks - just for peace of mind. Do you adjust the dose of your warfarin according to the reading or do you have to contact your doctor first?
I'm still on regular surgery checks every few weeks, but my GP knows I have this and if I was worried about the INR level I will just give him a ring for advice. Some surgeries you can email with your readings for them to update their records. I only bought it for my own peace of mind, especially when they say retest in 6 or 8 weeks, and try and to keep it as a weekly look to see how I'm doing.
I'm just on asprin but did have a bad liver bleed five years ago when I was on warfarin which was a very close call. I'll copy out the article and discuss it with him. I'm sure it's the safest way for most people but we are all so individual and have to be aware of the effects that medicines have on us. I was prescribed furosemide for bp last week and it worked immediately doing what it was prescribed for but not really doing much for the BP . I'm on half the lowest dose to start with. Terjo
Good article but not sure why they "could not" give warfarin to someone on B/P medication and statins as husband is on a shed load and was given warfarin. Wendy B
