Ablation

Hi there! I had an ablation yesterday. Still feel a bit groggy but other than that getting back to normal.. trying to eat again is a bit annoying as I feel sick still when I try but I have one question, it may sound silly? But I'm very cringy with my groin where the veins are, how long does it take to actually heal? And can I do my usual light hearted stuff like walking, going up stairs little bit of gardening etc.. in the first week? Thank you :)

To help the groin wound to heal, avoid stairs for a couple of days, longer if possible, especially if you are a tad heavy (if you know what I mean). Gentle walking much the same, but gardening would not be a good idea for a couple of weeks.....check out a recent post about using a lawnmower!! The problem is that things happen when you do things and any reaction prompted by a momentary lapse can easily lead to longer term problems.

The bruising in the groin begins to fade normally after a week or so. Look out for any redness, swelling or soreness as this could indicate an infection is brewing but that is generally rare. Generally needs a trip back to the ward or A&E.

I can't really see any problems going up stairs....unavoidable if you live in a house really. I would avoid gardening for first 2 weeks though. After that you should be ok as long as you don't overdo things.

Hi Dave

I wouldn't do anything that requires any exertion for the first week, then take it gently the second. Also don't wear pants for a few days, perhaps stay in your dressing gown or wear loose jogging bottoms, so that nothing rubs against the groin area. It can take a week or two for the area not to feel sore and sometimes a little longer for the bruising to disappear.

I've felt and been extremely sick in the hours after my ablations, but was given a pill each time and that awful feeling disappeared like magic quite quickly. Was your ablation in the afternoon?

Wishing you well.

Jean

I had my first ablation done a couple of weeks ago. I still have the scars from the incision sites. But most of the bruising and pain has gone away. I recommend taking it easy for at least 2 weeks until you get stronger.

Hi Dave 5 days to go before my ablation the arrhythmia nurse told me not do do anything for the first week after and not much more for the second week, so I've booked the bedroom for a fortnight and the better half and my son are insisting on waiting on me hand & foot (I'm a lucky man)

All the best
