I recently had an ablation and the doctor prescribed these drugs. Also a drug called Pantoprozole. Are these really necessary? I never had issues with GERD or ulcers before.

Hi
That was good that you had an ablation. I read that it really helps A-Fib so good for you!!! I am not a candidate for ablation. I do take Pradaxa. Some drugs can cause acid reflux, and I have noticed that Pradaxa does for me. If you have ever had chronic acid reflux you know that it can feel like your stomach is eating itself or your lower throat is on fire.
You may appreciate having the medicine to avoid that awfulness.
How do you feel after the ablation? What is your prognosis on reoccurrence? I believe my A-Fib is caused by high blood pressure, Allergy relief meds, msg, caffeine, stress.
I feel OK. Still too early to tell. One thing I noticed right away is that I am sleeping much better now. Although my heart rate now averages around 95 bpm. I also took flecenaids the first few days. So that had a negative effect on me. But I am hoping that once it is out of my system, I will feel much better.
My afib was originally a side effect of withdrawal from antidepressants. It is really upsetting, because prior to using antidepressants I was super healthy. I will regret taking them for the rest of my life.
I am happy you are sleeping better!! I started not sleeping well and waking up a lot. I did not know at that time that I was experiencing A-Fib. But now I sleep like a baby (I sleep with a sleep apnea machine as well).
The anti-depression drugs!! I needed them but was so afraid to take them. Every doctor I ever saw prescribed them. I still need them I’m afraid-especially now with A-Fib in top of everything else. The anxiety of this A-Fib is a bit much.
I hope your ablation takes so you don’t need another one. Were you home the same day? I am so happy to know you are feeling ok afterwards.
What are you taking to avoid depression now if you don’t mind me asking?
I never was depressed to begin with. The doctor prescribed them to me for insomnia. It was the only things that helped me sleep, while not making me feel too drugged. : (
I never felt anxiety or had panic attacks until after I stopped taking them.
I wish I could go back in time and instead take something natural, like GABA supplements.
If you take antidepressants, try to wean yourself off them as soon as possible.
Wow! I never heard of them being prescribed for resolving sleeping. You will be ok. They will completely be out of your system soon. You will recover completely and with your former whole self in tact. I’m claiming that for you!!
Pantoprozole Is a PPI and not advisable to use long term as it decreases stomach acid generally which means Pradaxa will not be absorped as the active ingredient is encased in a gel coat which requires acid to break it down. So in my opinion - no not nescesary.
Whilst it may protect the stomach lining it doesn’t help acid reflux, in my experience.
I found if it gets bad then liquid Gaviscon will be more affective in relieving the pain. The real trick to Pradaxa is to always take with or after food but never take with carbohydrates - take with protein or fruit or veg and always - fruit with yogurt is ideal - drink a full glass of water with it and sit or stand for about an hour afterwards and never lie down.
Unfortunately acid reflux is often a side effect of ablation AND Pradaxa - it does take a few weeks to disappear.
Best wishes and wishing you a speedy recovery.
May I suggest you question your doctor as to WHY?
I have never heard of that before just because you had an ablation.
I do wonder if it is over prescribing gone mad - unless you currently suffer from gerd, gout or ulcers?
