I just had my ablation done a few days ago. How long do I need to take flecenaide? I had forgotten how bad it makes me feel.

Flecenaide Post Ablation?
Were you given instructions on medication on the discharge notes before leaving the hospital? If not, you need to contact the hospital and ask as we are unable to comment or advise as this could be dangerous.
I was told a week by the EP. Thankfully no longer than that. After only a couple of days of taking it, I feel weak and look weak and disheveled. And feel numbness in the extremities.
I was given flecanaide 2 weeks post due to episodes of afib I was having.
It helped minimize afib episodes while my heart was healing. The episodes started to diminish after 5 weeks post ablation and stopped after 10 weeks.
I was kept on flecanaide until the 3 month blanking period was over then I was taken off flecanaide and eliquis.
I had no ill affects from the meds and have been afib free for over 6 months.
Best Wishes!
I was told to stop taking flecainide and blood thinners post ablation. I had to use it as PIP as I had a lot of PAF for two weeks after the ablation. Then the PAF stopped. I've had insulin dependent diabetes for almost 50 years and nocturnal hypoglycaemia (severe low blood sugar causing convulsions for hours and strain on the heart) probably caused my PAF. I no longer have that due to continuous blood glucose monitoring.
I take no medication now for PAF over two years after the ablation. I have no PAF (yet....). I have a friend who had high BP and PAF. He had an ablation, and a second four months later as a bit was missed. Now he takes sotalol as flecainide didn't work for him. So he's still taking medication to avoid PAF. I think it's hard to predict what the outcome will be.
PS. I only took blood thinners for the first month post ablation.
I had my last ablation on FEB 26th. I was told by my EP to stop flecainide on the the 12th April, I think in preparation for my appointment with him on the 8th May. ( I assume he wants me to have a period uncontrolled by the flecainide before the appointment??)
My EP originally told me to take all drugs for 2 months after he ablation.
We are all so different as is the regime advised by EPs post ablation.
I have had 7 ablations over a period of 9 years.
Only once was I told to stop Flecainide. 3 days later I went back into AF. I am however, lucky in as much as I do not have any side effects like you.
You should have been given clear instructions on what Meds to take. You must ask your doctors as it is important that you get the right medication for you.
I have also been told to keep taking Warfarin. I am soon going to have a hernia operation. They want me to stop taking Warfarin prior to the operation for a period of time.
I asked my EP whether it was OK and was told that as my heart is currently behaving itself there should now be minimal risk of stroke. I have to resume after the hernia operation.

I was told to stop taking Flecainide the day after my ablation. I took it for three years before the ablation and couldn’t wait to come off it. However all EPs have different points of view and you must be guided by yours. Good luck and I hope you keep well.
I suggest you phone the EP's secretary/arrythmia nurse, say how you are feeling - especially the numbness - and ask if you really need to keep taking it. They can consult with the EP if necessary.
After 4 ablations and over 3 years in SR, I am still on beta blocker, diuretic and anti coagulant. Different EP's, different bodies, different advice.
I came out of hospital after ablation number two on blood pressure meds and apixaban. If I had AF I was told to take Bisoprolol and then Flecainide 30 mins after as a PIP. I did this a few times in the blanking period as I had a lot of episodes but when one went on for 5 days the nurse told me to stay on Flecainide and Bisoprolol. So I have. And it's now six months since the ablation. It used to make me feel nauseous at first but this has got better over time. I do feel weak on it though. I'm going to raise this with the EP this week.
My EP had me take for month while healing. I had to discontinue due to side effects. But talk to EP about the side effects you are having you maybe able to change medication. Would be best to talk to EP
