Pill problem

Hi I’ve been on a handful of pills for several years but recently started with Magnesium. Since I had a problem swallowing one and it caused me to retch I’m finding it increasingly difficult to take anything. Any hints anyone? Some I take are solid others capsules.

Try taking them 2 at a time.

Drink some water first to moisten your throat. Put the tablets under your tongue, take a mouthful of water allowing the water to wash around your mouth and the tablets should float down your throat as you swallow.

This method may take a bit of getting used to but it has to be worth a try if you are currently retching.

I find it helps to take my larger pills with a little bread.

Hi, I take magnesium taurate which comes in capsules and these (for me) are far easier to swallow than tablets. In a lot of the £1 shops and places like Home Bargains you can buy pill splitters cheaply and they will cut any size tablet. I have also taken tablets with a teaspoon of yoghurt. Anything soft like that, that you just swallow and don’t have to chew. The tablets stick to the yoghurt and slide down. If they are large cur them first.

Hope you find something that works for you.

Hugs

I may try it next time mine are big blue bullets! Which I will cut as previously suggested by Francis 123

No, none at all. Been taking them for about 18 months now.

I was talking magnesium oxide and changed to magnesium taurate because of better absorption and I had side effects. My BP went up from 130/80 to over 200/100. At the same time I started Taurine because I read this was good for AFIB. Both have the same aminos. I stopped both and BP returned to normal.

I have another condition which often causes swallowing problems. The advice we are given is to NOT take with water but with a glutinous substance such as yogurt or liquid yogurt drink - much, much easier to swallow!

Another tip is not to put your head back but tuck your chin in as you swallow - this opens up the throat and places it at a better angle for swallowing.

Wow who knew there was such an art to it. Thanks so much I now have several ideas to try.

Hope something works for you. Water is one of the hardest things to swallow when I experience difficulty swallowing - it just comes back through my nose - very weird!

Ewww something new for me to experience reminds me when I was little when laughing that would happen

It’s very specific to a Neuro muscular condition so unlikely.

I take two of the 500mg as they are a lot easier than the large dry tablets for 1000mg

NATURE'S OWN MAGNESIUM CHELATE 500MG 250 CAPSULES

Chelate is the easiest absorbed form according to what I have read.

You can also get empty gelatine capsules and grind the large magnesium ones down to a manageable size yourself. Capsules are approx. £3.50 per 100

Thanks I would never have thought of that

Trouble is it was the Mg started the problem and I’m thinking I won’t be able to get all my pills in spray form 🙄

Most people raise their heads when swallowing....try lowering your head instead. Works for me.

If you're having trouble swallowing magnesium (the pills tend to be large) try a product called NATURAL CALM (recommended by me chiropractor). It's a powder version of magnesium, virtually tasteless, but it does come in flavors -- raspberry or lemon. Easiest way to take magnesium.

I learned to eat a mouthful of biscuit or a couple of grapes and just as I am going to swallow them I pop in the pills and swallow the lot. I trick my mind to think its just swallowing food. I have done it for years.

I just had to try that! Not sure it helped but gave me something to concentrate on rather than swallowing 👍

Try bashing them into small pieces and putting them into bread and butter. That might work.

I have to admit I don’t like swallowing them either but know I have to so just get it over with.
