Hi Higgy, it's a lovely feeling to be in normal rhythm isn't it! It will be good to stop taking the Amiodarone too. Did your thyroid only become overactive when you started taking Amiodarone? It made my thyroid go underactive.

Best wishes

Jean

Unless the thyroid was overactive before you started taking amiodarone, how can they tell that it is not the amiodarone? Best come off this drug as soon as possible! It will stay in your body for months, and take a year or more for your thyroid to return to normal, assuming it does.

never had shakes before taking Amiodarone so think thyroid was ok before

I can't believe they say it's not the amiodorone.

I was on it for a short time in comparison to you, around 6 months. It knackered my thyroid which became over active.

Fortunately after 12 months my thyroid function is back in the normal range

All the best for the future

I was prescribed Amiodarone after my first ablation, and four months later also after my second. Total time nine months. After my first, I still had perimitral atrial flutter which was addressed in the second. After the second, I had many, many episodes of arrhythmia for which my EP kept lengthening the time I was to continue on Amiodarone. So I asked for a change of meds and was put on Flecainide a week ago. I have stayed in sinus rhythm. Now I am wondering if Amiodarone was contributing to my arrhythmia.

I have no respect for a stubborn EP. A post of your some time ago stated that your endocrinologist also wanted you off Amiodarone. And, with all the side effects that you've had on Amiodarone, for me, it is unconscionable that this EP would refuse, especially since 1 1/2 years have passed since you've asked him before. You've also said that your thyroid has been ruined due to Amiodarone.

When I asked my EP for a change of meds, I was prescribed 200 mg of Flecainide. I asked for a 50 mg x 2 maintenance dose, which is half the dose. The answer was, "yes sure." Although it has been only eight days on Flecainide, I have been in sinus rhythm since starting it, whereas on Amiodarone, I was having frequent episodes. Also, the Amiodarone will stay in my system for months to come.

As your ablation is fresh, stopping it would probably not be a good idea. However, if you really want a change of meds, insist on it.

You say, "want to come off it," rather than a change of meds. You might want to try the approach of changing meds.
