Badly need stronger pain relief than paracetemol. Is there anything at all that wont bring on AF?

I have a really bad flare up of diverticulitis. Have been ill all week. On antibiotics since Monday but no improvement. In lot of pain and paracetemol not helping. Just wondered if anyone knows of anything at all a bit stronger, that's safe to take with AF. The last thing I want is to set off my heart. Feeling rather sorry for myself at the moment! Seems if it's not one thing it's another. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you. Judie.

Hi Judie, we are not medically trained therefore unable to recommend medications. As you probably know, anti-inflammatories are a no no, but you should speak to your pharmacist or GP to get proper advice. Hope you feel better soon......

Judie, my GP prescribed co codamol for bad toothache as a short term relief. Can you ring your doctor’s surgery for advice? Gut pain is dreadful - hope you get relief soon.

Thank you both. I have just made an emergency appt. with the doctor. The reason I asked on here about pain relief is that I always feel we are more aware than a lot of the doctors as to which painkillers are a no no with AF. Sadly I have found this to be true in the past...

Worth pointing out (usual note that not medically qualified) but a common side effect of co-codamol is constipation and depending on how your diverticula condition affects you this may be a discussion with the gp.

Mostly I take Co codamol. As Jonjub states there is a possibility of constipation, I don't seem to get that. I don't use it if I can bear the pain. I will take it when I get a pain that lasts too long. Dave

Yes co-codamol (paracetamol & codine) is the only pain relief I can take safely. It can tend to make you constipated but for me it slows down my urgent gut and gives relief as well as killing pain. 😴

I find codeine/co-codamol is great for painkilling. Paracetamol alone does nothing for me. I find drinking a fibrogel with each dose keeps the constipation at bay. Obviously check that codeine is suitable for your own particular health circumstances first.
