Episode?

I am one of the lucky ones, my Afib episodes have been minor compared to most. I have recently come off Nebivolol and been given Flecainide as a PIP.

Last night the minute I lay down in bed my heart started a rumba which lasted most of the night. However, my hr was 79 at the highest. Am I likely to encounter several of these episodes while my body adjusts?

Impossible to say as everyone is different.

Do your episodes often start at night or when you lie down? If so you might research vagal AF which can often be triggered by various things and can often be stopped by using vasovagal procedures.

Propping the head of your bed up or adjusting your sleeping position can sometimes help but once you have AF it tends not to go away.

I learned to sleep through such episodes but was very conscious of my heartbeat as it seemed to echo very loudly in my ear - solution was to put earphones in and listen to audiobooks.

If you go to the AFA website you will find lots of information on how to manage AF and various treatment options.

Best wishes

Thank you for your reply. Most episodes seem to occur when I lie down and as I have pulsatile (?) tinnitus I can hear as well as feel them. Will java a look at the AFA website, it has taken me so long to get off beta blockers I don’t want to go back on them.

Hi Hylda it’s scary having episodes of AF or any sort of palpitations when you lay down of a night as your looking for a good night sleep, instead you lay there aware of a heart that’s not behaving and feeling very vulnerable. I have just come of a regular dose of flecanide back to a pip ... my cardiologist gave me a plan to follow and I have also been put on anti depressants to stop me from worrying about my health issues to the point were I couldn’t function . If your cardiologist gave you a plan then use it if not then you need to ask when to take your pip and when to go to hospital if it doesn’t work and the dose as well . This will help put your mind at ease too . Hope you are feeling a bit better too best wishes ❤️

Thank you so much for replying. My EP has advised 100 of Flecainide to be taken after my heart has been jumping about for two hours. My 72 hr monitor showed small runs

Whoops escaped. Hopefully today I will get the pills and can come off Nebivolol. Nothing was said about A&E! I have to have another monitor in a few months time and see him again
