Anyone had the ablation at Glenfield.

If so, who was the cardiologist & were you happy with treatments and outcome please.

yes, Dr Sandilands did mine back in April last year. Can't speak highly enough for the care I have received at Glenfield. He even ran down to radiography to get a portable ultrasound machine and did the scan himself. All because it was a bank holiday weekend and he didn't want me to be stuck on a ward waiting for this scan before being discharged.

I'll also mention that this was his day off, he cycled in to see me and get me discharged. Above and beyond in my eye

Fantastic.

Prof Ng is doing mine.

I've seen him around, he also seems to be very approachable. He and Dr Sandilands have the same secretary

Professor Ng did my ablation in June last year at Glenfield, he was brilliant as were the rest of the staff at Glenfield, the care was excellent. Unfortunately I went in to atrial flutter in December so I'm currently waiting for another appointment for a second ablation and hoping it will be done by him again. Good luck with your ablation.

Hi Dianemary,

How long have you got to wait for next Ablation

Dianemary profile image
Dianemaryβ€’ in reply tohiggy52

Hi higgy52, I have an appointment with a cardiologist on 21st February to discuss the situation and hopefully he will refer me to Glenfield, I hope it will be as quickly as possible.

I could be wrong but i think waiting list for Ablation is about 6 months, if not urgent, ive been on list since mid October, and rang Glenfield to ask when and they said no were near the list of planed Ablations yet.

Dianemaryβ€’ in reply tohiggy52

I think you're right sadly. Hope you get it done soon though. Shouldn't be too much longer if you've been on the list since October. I went back into atrial flutter in December so I know I will have quite a wait. My main concern is that I'm taking amiodarone which I find quite scary and just want to get off it!

higgy52 profile image
higgy52β€’ in reply toDianemary

Yes i had A fib, and had Ablation and think thats worked but now got to have ablation for flutter, same as you still on Amiodarone

Let's hope we both get sorted soon, do let me know how you get on. All the best!

I had an RF ablation for PAF done by Dr Stafford 8 years ago. AF and AFib returned a few months ago and I'm on the waiting list for combined cryo and RF ablation.

Dr Stafford and the team at Glenfield were fabulous and the ablation transformed my life for 8 Afib free years, Hence return to same hospital and consultant. What ore can I say?

Hi there Ijan , he done mine in August last year and I had both freeze and burn on the same procedure. He found 3 things wrong with me and done it there and then , he seems to be skilled at doing the to things at the same time so that’s excellent for his patients πŸ‘πŸΌ good luck with your next one .

ijan profile image
ijanβ€’ in reply toSam72-

Thanks Sam, good to hear from someone who had freeze and burn at the same time.

How long did it take you to recover from the proceedure?

I could have opted for separate proceedures but figured getting both done at the same time would help me be drug free sooner.

I found it slower than most on here and had a few issues with a sore tummy for about 3 weeks , but I rested a lot and did not rush into anything. I think the key is take it easy for as long as possible. But no AF or SVT πŸ‘πŸΌ

Sam72- profile image
Sam72-β€’ in reply toijan

O and I did not no he was going to burn as well but the SVT was a surprise and that was a tricky one as it was very close to my sinus node 😬 but he done it anyway and so glad he did because I was petrified, such an amazing man and before my procedure he was so nice and held my hand and said he was going to do his best to get me sorted out. Because I suffer with terrible anxiety they went all out for me and my family and we’re brilliant, I stayed overnight and they let my daughter sleep next to me . My daughter is a military nurse and they let her come in to the lab while they put me to sleep because I was terrified. Just amazing staff , they also gave me a little sedation on the ward to calm me a bit to get me to the lab . I honestly have nothing bad to say about them all they are just amazing πŸ‘ŒπŸΌπŸ’–

Thanks for sharing: every positive experience helps balance the difficult ones which people are more likely to post about in their quest for support and answers.

I'm guilty of the same thing and posted to reassure gingo2012 :-) because of my very positive views of Glenfield.

Yes !! I had mine done last August, was also under proff NG , however on the day a fantastic EP called Mr Stafford done mine . I was a total wreck and he was amazing with me . He listened to my questions just before the ablation procedure and went in and found a few things wrong with me . He done a fantastic job and I can not fault him . So as you can see by the feedback on here we all have had different EPs and had very good feedback on the procedure. I think Glenfeild has some of the top EPs in the country . It is also the leading heart hospital with the latest technology in the UK !! This makes a massive difference in your procedure. As mikee will tell you , it looks like something out of Star treck with all the equipment and the nurses are amazing.

Best wishes

Sam πŸ’–

Wowsaar. Has your AF gone ?

Ng & Stafford are reputed to be the best EP’s there.

Thank you for your post.

Up to now I have had a lot of ectopic beats and still very early days but no AF πŸ‘πŸΌOn the day they found SVT and PV tac . So I had what you call a double whammy of freeze and burn. I think recovery for what I had takes a bit longer however it can take up to 6 months to feel the full benefits. No complaints here πŸ‘πŸΌ 5 months procedure and ok πŸ‘ŒπŸΌ

Lol πŸ˜‚ you will be fine and the staff are just amazing, And they don’t discharge you to soon like some hospitals, I think it’s 12 months with them and checks done . I took presents 🎁 over Christmas to them all as I was so happy with the care they gave me . I was a nightmare lol πŸ˜‚ took 2 nurses to get me from the corridor to the ward 😬. I nearly bolted from the car park 😩 but they were fantastic and held me hand and never left my side . When I got out to sleep they were there and as soon as I woke up they were there β˜ΊοΈπŸ€—

Cancelled in the 15th, went ahead last Wednesday :-)

RF Ablation for flutter, and cryo with phrenic nerve pacing for afib.

Home next day. feeling surprisingly well but am easily tired.

How about you?

gingo2012 profile image
gingo2012β€’ in reply toijan

Lucky. Don't feel tired , my meds have been reduced to sotalol 80 mg warfarin 4 mg.

Almost too good to be true.

Professor Ng is brilliant.

May I also add , I did not see proff NG although I was under him . So don’t be disheartened if you don’t have him on the day . They are all amazing EPs in that hospital so don’t worry. πŸ‘πŸΌ
