Depends on your dose. Don't reduce your dose without medical supervision. Do read the bit of paper in the packet.

I am on 1.25 daily for PAF - my EP has said to come off it as lowers heart rate to around 50 resting however I find it somewhat comforting to take it I guess and takes the edge off things

Before AF my average HR was around 85 to 90, the high end of the normal range. When AF hit (in Jan 2010) I was at 160 bpm. I was then put on 5mg Bisoprolol per day and this holds my HR at around 65 bpm. Occasionally however it drops to around 50 to 53 bpm and on extreme occasions down to 46 bpm - but I can live with that. I am still on 5mg daily.

As far as I can recall, 1.25mgs is the lowest dose available for Bisoprolol. It is always better to reduce the dose gradually which will mean cutting the tablet in half if at all possible.

If you have been told to come off it like I was reduce the dosage and ween yourself off it over a couple of weeks I had no problems doing this way

I found I had more ectopics etc in the week following stopping, and then it all settled down. Now I'm fine without, but use it as PIP when required (All done with cardiologist's agreement)

I asked if I could reduce my dosage 5mgs. The consultant told me to reduce really gradually. I dropped to 3.75 quite easily but 2.5 was a step too far. I now alternate between 3.75 and 2.5 and this seems to suit me. I definitely have more energy.

You can become somewhat irritable and anxious for a couple of weeks. You may also find that you get out of breath and remain that way for some time after any form of exercise. I found that my pulse would remain at 90-100 for up to 2 hours before returning to 60+. During that time, I had a slight out of breath feeling. Your sleep pattern may also change during that time. A number of people here have reported the same problems. Oh, and reduce the tablets down to half or a quarter and then every other day over a 2 week period.

Not what you're looking for?
