Ablation tomorrow

Had Flutter ablation just over 2 years ago but first AF ablation tomorrow. This one is under GA as EP says it may take 4 hours so I need to be still for a long time! Starting to get nervous now but just want it over and done with although I know recovery is just as important as the ablation! Remote controls, bed, sofa and waiter (hubby) all ready to do their jobs! Everything crossed for a good outcome! Good luck to anyone else who is having an ablation too.

Here's the good news. You passed all the pre-tests! You're a candidate for ablation. I hear about those that don't pass those tests, so in my very humble and prejudicial opinion, you're good to go. And, all of us who responded to you have been through this ablation experience and I can tell you, it's very routine and the docs and staff who will be in the lab with you are experts. You're in good hands. Let us know how you are doing as soon as you can and also in a couple of weeks.

Thank you, went well, I am feeling fragile but so glad to be home. Just got to recover now. I will post a new thread with an update in a day or two.

Glad to hear it went well, rest and more rest is the key to recovery. Take things very easy, the fragility will gradually get better. Take care.

Congratulations having made it to the top of the ablation list! I’m in Bristol too and my life is on hold while I’m waiting for my ablation! Good luck I hope it all goes well and I have noted down your recipe for successful post operative recovery!

Hope you’re date comes through quickly, if you haven’t already make sure to let them know you are available short notice (if you are) for a cancellation. Mine was done at The Spire through the Heart Institute!

Thanks Jo I hope yours went well and you are feeling ok today, Just take it easy now! Yes I am on the cancellation list. I had three trips to A& E in December and on the last one they said they would keep me in and do the ablation the next day but as is the way of AF it stopped after 12 hours so I was discharged! My sister also had her ablation in the Spire instead of the Heart Institute she went from first AF experience to Ablation in less than a year. I am 3 years in so far.....

As I was in persistent AF mine was done quickly as EP said the longer my heart was in persistent AF the more it would want to stay there and the harder it would be to ablate! I saw him in November and deed done yesterday. He said the ablation I had in 2017 for Flutter was still good and he didn’t have to do any work in right atrium but did all 4 pulmonary veins, he was happy with how things went. Feeling tired and a bit sore today but all went well, fingers crossed!

Hi jobristrol.

I had an ablation for af on November 5th last year after quite a few traumatic times. It took just over 2 hours and although in theory I should be awake I zonked out. It was my first, and like you I was a little apprehensive. Nothing to worry about. I had a night in hospital and one day rest and then was up and about. It seems to have been a success as I have had a couple of months af free. YIPEE!!!!

Good luck with your op and hope you have a successful and speedy recovery.

Best wishes Flyer.

Going in for second ablation 31st Jan, hope it works this time as I have been on ameoderone for far too long which destroyed my thyroid completely, so hoping this one works so I can be rid of these horrible tablets. Good luck with your ablation, keep in touch.

My third ablation attempt was successful, I am happy to report. I no longer have the WPW condition and my Kardia device always shows "Normal" sinus rhythm.

Glad to hear all went well, it’s so nice to be back in NSR. Hope your recovery is going well. All seems to be going good with me. Hope it continues this way for us both.

Turns out my doc taking me off of my beta blocker cold turkey is causing me bouts of sustained resting Tachycardia. I made the mistake of not waiting months for my body to get used to not being on Sotalol HCL for 17 years before getting the new Shingrix shingles vaccine (new guidelines 50+ rather than old Zostavax one with live virus at 60+). My heart went crazy in the first 10 min. after the shot so much so that my Kardia device could not get a reading and had dizziness. Vitals went back to normal after 20 min. The next day I had the documented side effects of the vaccine which are accentuated flu like symptoms. My bpm was going higher by the minute so much so I thought I should go to Urgent Care. My wife and I decided I should take a Sotalol pill. After an hour it was like night and day...back to normal. I'm not sure why my doc did not titrate me down on my dose over time and, instead, took me off cold turkey.

That must have been scary for you, must have been a big relief when things returned to normal. Hope all continues to be ok for you.

Thanks. The way I look at it is that my immune system has been "woke" and is ready for the "come on down" COVID-19. Incidentally, I also had a HepB vaccine shot (#2/3) at the same time as this Shingrix vaccine (#1/2) but on the other arm.

Happy for you! Had mine 2 years ago March 1st. Wish I had it sooner. My procedure was 3 hours. I was doing my normal activities in a few days. My heart hurt for about a month....but it was no biggie just a weird feeling.
