Four and a half months post ablation.

I have been sent an appointment to have an ecg 24 hour monitor fitted just four and a half months following second ablation, is this normal procedure does anybody know? I’m asking because it is such an inconvenience as I live on the far south east coast and have to travel to st Thomas’s in London for 9.45am, not only does the train fare cost a fortune but I’ll have to stop overnight to be able to return the monitor in good time !

I don't know about "normal", but I expect the doc will want a trace to see if the ablation was successful. Mine did.

In my case, if he had mailed it to me I could have fitted it myself. Alternatively, perhaps you can get one locally - as it's probably the recording he wants (which you can send him) rather than your physical presence.

I would call him, explain the inconvenience and see if he can suggest an alternative.

I had ablation at st Thomas’s shortly after moving to Somerset. They happily accepted an ECG carried out locally in Somerset. I even took a paper copy to my follow up appointment (timed in the middle of the day) just in case.

My London EP asks the North Devon Hospital to do such and forward the analysis

I don't think it unusual, I had a 5 day monitor before one of my reviews.

It might be worth speaking to the cardiology department at your local hospital, I would think the data could be transmitted electronically.

Good morning Nana. Maybe it's not helpful in your case, but have you been offered an Implantable loop recorder? You download the data from home and transmit it to hospital and then only see the cardiologist or EP now and again, unless anything untoward is recorded. My recorder isn't very noticeable being about 1/4 inch square fitted in my chest a couple inches above my 'breast/ nipple ', (male). There are 2 other items used for recording and transmitting data. It's worth asking about it, in case it can help you. Dave

I am a st Thomas patient and live in the north. I have tests done up here and take the results at next london app or send the info to them, the system works well.

I send a weekly report the first 3 months after ablation via land line phone, then return for office visit follow up. The device was sent home with me and is returned via Fed Ex.

Thank you all for your response to my post . I will hopefully speak to st Thomas’s tomorrow and be able to sort something out with them. Only had my three month check four weeks ago so was a bit surprised to receive this appointment out of the blue yesterday but as I say hopefully be able to speak with someone tomorrow.
