I've come here for some guidance and advice if at all possible. After being shocked from his ICD in October my dad was prescribed Amiodarone. I have since heard some complete horror stories regards g this drug so thought this the best place to ask. Are any of you on it/been on it. Do you have any views in it? Thank you
Amiodarone : I've come here for some... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Amiodarone
It has been said that amiodarone does not have side effects - It has effects! That said it has valuable uses short term.
Well Amiodarone didn't stop my AF and I was on it on and off for around a year in total. It damaged my thyroid so I now have to take Levothyroxine for the rest of my life. Flecainide was the drug that really helped.
If you put Amiodarone in the search box at the top of the page it will throw up all of the posts about it. It's always being discussed on here.

Been on it 2 years damaged my thyroid, red face red eyes, Had Ablation about year ago still got Atrial flutter, so got to have another Ablation, on waiting list not sure when could be six months, but E P said stay on Amiodarone till after next Ablation, what do you do want to come off it ?
Been on Amiodarone since June 2017. I have blood tests every 3 months and so far no issues reported. I can only imagine it's a stop gap solution until they put a permanent fix in place.
I started amiodarone, 200 mg daily, the end of September. I still get AF one bout per week for about 24-36 hours. He put me on it to try to strengthen my heart since my ejection fraction had dropped to 40-45%. I plan on stopping the amio when I see my EP in early March. I have not had any issues yet but I expect that I will have some damage somewhere as it seems most everyone has some damage from this very nasty drug.
I was on it for 6 months, i have never felt so ill in my life. It damaged my thyroid (thankfully it repaired itself over 12 months. I had to stay indoors with curtains closed as I was getting sunburn INSIDE the house even with factor 50+ suncream on. It made my life a living hell
I've been on it (200 mg) and it's worked fine for me so far. I was on metoprolol and entresto and together they weren't enough but the three seem to be ok. I started on 400 then my cardiologist halved the dosage. I have a low score (1) and my AF wasn't too far along, I think. I'm 54. Hope this helps!
