Using Amoxicillin antibiotic While taking Rivaroxiban.

Hi everyone ,hope you all had a great Christmas. Just got back from the Doctor with antibiotics for chest infection. Only just read the blurb which says If you are taking medicines to help stop blood clots (such as Warfarin) you may need extra blood tests. I know it is a clear statement but I really need to start taking these anti biotics as I feel so rough but obviously I don't want to stop Rivaroxiban. Does anyone know what the effect would be taking both. ie would it make them less effective or is it really dangerous. I wonder whether anyone else has had this problem. Thanks Christine

I’ve taken amoxicillin with Apixaban without problems. If you are worried, check with your pharmacist - they are usually well informed.

I've taken Amoxicillin several times while taking Xarelto/Rivaroxiban with no issues, and confirmed o.k. prior to taking with my pharmacist. Hope you feel better soon!

Give your pharmacist a call to check it out. I have taken rivaoxaban with antibiotics without issue.

I ‘m so grateful that you more or less endorsed my own feeling about it. I’m taking another antibiotic this evening. Will contact pharmacist first thing tomorrow. Thanks again. Christine.

I have just finished a course and also take Apixaban which is fine with Amoxycillin You just need to check with the pharmacist if Rivaroxaban is oK with it- I am guessing that the info refers to warfarin but you need to check

Antibiotics do affect INR levels with warfarin but since DOACs work on a completely different part of the clotting process blood tests are of no value . I have not heard of any contra indications but as others have suggested. your pharmacist is the the person to ask.
