I have been using a TENS unit with great effect for hip and leg pain, someone has just said that if you have an arrhythmia you should not use it. Should I be worried or should I avoid, so far since using it I have had no unusual heart rhythm or rate changes.

I asked my GP the same thing and she confidently said it was fine for me to use a TENS but not near my heart. I used it on my legs and back and had no issues.
Glad it works for you because it did nothing for me at all !

Many thanks for your speedy reply. I shall continue with it.
Hi Dovelady,
I used a TENS machine ( and still have it and use it from time to time) for pain on my right knee ( with osteoarthritis). I still use it on my upper back/lower neck from time to time at no time have I had any side effects at all ......NONE, and most definately nothing related to heart rhythm or rate issues.
I solved me knee problem eventually ( because the TENS machine no longer gave me relief) with a partial knee replacement.

I had to use a TENS unit on my chest after my quad heart bypass but eventually had to stop as it was triggering arythmias. Of course these were the early signs of the AF that developed in the following years, but that was a result of the bypass itself and not the TENS machine.
