It really is not good enough and a sign of the times within our NHS. Emotional state doesn't figure in the mix sadly it's all a numbers business.
Hope you get another app quickly. I understand your upset I am awaiting an op date for gall bladder surgery and not getting anywhere nearer a date. Frustrating i know, here's hoping your heart is manageable till your next app arrives.
Thank you meadfoot feeling less annoyed now. Just very frustrating as I have loads of questions and still haven’t been told whether I had a heart attack or not. Also my get the impression the gp is desperate to pass responsibly for me over to the hospital, especially as the hospital missed the fact I was diabetic when I was in hospital with Afib. I hope you get your appointment soon. Deb
It is so frustrating, not to mention upsetting, when things like this happen, isn't it? I wonder whether you may have considered telling the Cardiology dept. that you would be willing to accept a last-minute appointment resulting from a cancellation - if you are able to do that.
Earlier this year I was told there was a 30 week wait for a Dermatology appointment (national shortage of dermatologists, I understand). I made clear I would accept a last-minute cancellation and I got an appointment a fortnight later. I was phoned one morning and saw the consultant in the afternoon.
Another possible way to be seen earlier is to see a cardiologist (or preferably an EP) privately, if that's something you'd be willing to consider. I think an initial appointment would cost about £250, but I suspect it depends where you live as to how high the fees are. Plenty of people here seem to have taken that route and then transferred to the consultant's NHS list for any further treatment (eg ablation) required.
Hi Carol thank you for your reply that is a very good idea regarding cancellation unfortunately I missed the call so only had a voicemail. I am considering a private consultation as I don’t believe there is an EP at my local hospital but I looked online and there is one at another hospital that is not too far away and has a good reputation. I think when it comes to health I am prepared to pay for the best health care. Many thanks Deb
I guess you could still phone your cardiology unit to make clear about accepting a cancellation and then if one doesn't crop up quickly you could go the private consultation route. I doubt you'd have to wait more than a couple of weeks for that.
Anyway, good luck, Deb, whatever you decide to do.
I would also be inclined to contact PALS ( patient advice and liaiason setvice) Every hospital has one and switchboard would give number if not on website. They should be able to at least find out when you WILL get appt and at best hurry it up.
Deb when I we as kept waiting too long I asked my GP to write to my EP and that did the trick. Hope you get something soon.
