I have decided to have an ablation after refusing it several times and as I have private insurance have a choice of who to go to. I live within range of Bristol, Oxford, Birmingham. Any experiences of EPs and hospitals that I should consider (or not consider) Thanks

There is a top team at QE Birmingham who are private (with BMI) and also do NHS. Dr Howard Marshall is the highly experienced EP I have been under for many years. My ablation, done privately in 2005 was very successful and his subsequent advice on all things subsequently, including drugs has also been spot on.

I am not on commission 😀

Good luck with your ablation, best thing I ever did.

I too am 'under' the Birmingham Queen Elizabeth (University Hospital Trust). All treatment excellent and there are several experienced EP's on 'the team.' My treatment was all NHS but I know they 'do' private.

Two ablations with Dr Michael Griffiths at QEH. Can not fault the care and straight talking advice. AF free at the moment since last ablation. I’m 58 and feel 21 again. Best advice also was to quit coffee and limit alcohol. Definitely worth it. Good luck.

On this subject, has anyone had at ablation at the JR, in Oxford? Any comments on the EP's, treatment received and success or otherwise? Cheers, Andy

Someone asked this question a few weeks ago about the John Radcliffe. The rec. was a Ms. M petersen.....or similar....cannot be too many with a similar name .

Yes. One for PSVT ten years ago and two for AF recently. The JR has a new multimillion heart centre with several cath labs as well as the usual other cardiac treatments. The staff and consultants were excellent and the follow-up contact with the arrhythmia nurses a godsend.

The PSVT ablation was a total success. AF was more difficult but after two ablations and three cardioversions am in SR for eight months with sotalol (120mg bd) and coping quite well.

I have now had my ablation at the BMI Priory Birmingham under Dr Lencioni and am delighted with the cars I got and the results so far - after a few initial hiccups I have now been PAF free for 2 weeks so fingers crossed
