Woke up in night big toe killing me when I got up area very inflamed hot to touch and v painful. Doc says gout bloods taken to confirm. Can't take ibuprofen due to pradaxa prescribed Colchiseen off statins whilst on them
Antinflamatories: Woke up in night big... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Antinflamatories
Nope my Osteoarthritis has been difficult to manage since on coagulants, codeine is the wrong painkiller for the inflammatory pain. Ice and rest is the best. Would be good to keep the foot elevated paracetamol possibly codeine and ice.
The colchiseen is to reduce inflammation
Must admit not heard of that cos it's pretty gout specific not the generic anti-inflammatory I know and love. I've just read a few bits on it
"Colchicine may cause your body to produce fewer blood cells of different types. This could raise your risk of infection or bleeding because some of these blood cells fight infection and help form blood clots."
If you're on any "blood thinning" meds it seems to interact with your clotting... so I'd wonder about being on it personally.
Pharmacist cleared it as long as off statin at same time. As gout usually acute flare up won't be on long
Given how painful gout is, I hope it clears up soon!
It is indeed thanks
As always I can only speak from own experience. My husband (77 years, diabetes Afib) use Sotalol Mylan and Apixaban. Suddenly he get very painful attack of gout. Other Afib. patientens advise apple cider vinäger or. 2 tee spoons of mustard or red thursbery saft. We could only. manage apple cider vinegar. Two table spoon of vinegar at glas of water. Next day he was better, day after ännu better etc.
Thanks
Amendment med is colchicine
Try Celery Seed supplements.
I had an immediate improvement after taking two when my toe joints became painful, swollen and red. It isn’t gout though, it is osteoarthritis. At the time it felt as though I was walking with large stones in my shoes.
I could not believe the effect after taking the first dose.

I buy all my supplements from amazon and usually go by the reviews. The ones I have are ‘natures aid’. They have burdock, nettle and cherry added. All anti inflammatories. I’ve got a spare bottle of ‘swanson’ which don’t have those added extras.
I’ve taken them for roughly a year I think.
I know I was in a bad way with my feet/toe joint at the time but not had a problem since. I’m working on my feet for at least 6 hours a day during term time which I know doesn’t help 🙄.
I also have sacroiliac trouble and an arthritic right hip. 😕

Thank you pat I will look at the 'natures aid' do you take an anticoagulant I take Apixaban .
No I don’t. I take no meds, only supplements.
I googled celery seed today and read a few articles. It seems it is good for gout too.
I’m not sure that you can take these with anticoagulants but hope you can as I think they will help.
When I bought my first celery seed I bought 2 others to try too; cherry and turmeric. My plan was to take them each for a few days in turn to see if any helped me.
Luckily for me I tried the celery first and the next morning my swollen, raging big toe joints had gone right down and the pain had gone.

My hubby gets gout, I feel for you. Very very painful. He gets colchicine for the acute attacks too but in between he likes to snack on sour cherries, apparently they may help...
The colchicine is for the acute attack. Not everyone can tolerate it. I'd blood tests show gout You should get allopurinol or febuxostat to bring down Uric acid levels in blood. That did the trick for me and have never had another attack. I am on Febuxostat trial to see how it compares to allopurinol for people with heart issues. It's been 2 years now and no problems
Last nights Doc Martin episode featured gout. Part of the advice apart from the medication was to drink plenty of water
Thanks do drink lots of weak green tea may as well be water ha ha
Green tea is said to be an ant inflammatory.
When my wife had gout the drugs despite her taking a PPI gave her 67 gastric ulcers as counted during the endoscopy.
I drink at least eight mugs a day of it not worked ha ha
Tea bags or loose tea?
Bags don't like loose my tea very week easier to control with bags
Have you considered taking Allopurinol on a daily basis? It does work.
Never had before started tues night waiting on blood results. Don't really want any more tabs. Improved today so see how I go
I have had gout for years (one never gets rid of it) from a low bout of thyroid medicine to check on my heart. At the time I luckily wasn't on heart meds, so I was able to take Meloxicam for a week while first on Allopurinol to break up the gout crystals. It was horribly painful for a week even with the Meloxicam.
Now, years later, I am unable to use any NSAIDS, e.g., diclofenac, ibuprofen, etc., and my internist reduced the Allopurinol dose because of my kidneys, so I eat 10 Montmorency cherries every day, and it really helps. You can buy the dried ones at Costco online. I know it helps, because when I stop for a while, I'll have a few sharp stabs in my big toe joint, and I know I need to eat the daily cherry dose. You could also drink sour cherry juice (not Bing or any sweet cherry).
Good luck. Gout is not fun.
Thanks for info
