I take apixaban, without any ill effects, and nothing is mentioned in the accompanying leaflet about food or drink that should not be taken at the same time. There are warnings about taking some other prescription medicines at the same time and also about taking it if you have other conditions. However, I think it's safe to assume that the person who prescribed apixaban will have considered these matters in your case.

If you are concerned and want a properly informed opinion why not go and ask your pharmacist? They are the experts on these things and are readily approachable .... and without an appointment too as a rule.

As far as alcohol is concerned there is no specific warning in the accompanying leaflet, though many people with AF find that it acts as a trigger and so avoid it.

I've been taking Apixaban for about 6 months and in the early stages, made a couple of calls to the haematology nurse for advice. I haven't come across anything I can't eat. The only advice I was given was regarding alcohol, and not exceeding the suggested unit limit.

Hello PC 92 :-) I have been taking Apixaban for some months and when I asked my GP I was told there were no dietary restriction.

However I have voluntarily stopped drinking alcohol for a number of reasons, drinking could increase the risk of a fall not something you want when taking any anticoagulant, alcohol adds unnecessary calories to the diet and also adds to the cocktail of chemicals going into the body.

No restrictions I know about except perhaps grapefruit but that is debateable. I have been taking it for over a year, had the occasional bit of grapefruit with no ill effects.

I thought that rule was only for Warfarin users. Everybody I know who are on the other anticoagulants don't have any particular food restrictions?
