Hiya I took my dad today for his cardioversion but last couple of days he has started to feel better. His pulse is 76 beats per minute and back in sinus rhythm!
Can’t believe how it can just go back in to rhythm all of a sudden! He has been in AF for 36 days and didn’t think it would go back in to rhythm on its own.

I had the same thing happen to me once, my heart had been in AF for almost 2 months, then while laying on the trolley with the cardioversion about to be done it went back into sinus. Another time in A & E, they were going to shock it back without any anaesthetic. Well, I think the shock of them telling me that soon sent me back into sinus rhythm.
It's good to hear that your dad didn't need his cardioversion after all. Long may he stay well.
Jean they were going to go it without any anaesthetic!!!?? Is that normal!!? Wow I don’t think that would have been pleasant to experience. Thank you for your comment also. Hopefully he will stay in rhythm, its so stressful to deal with, I struggle with the worry and sometimes I’m ill with stress because of it!
I think it's usual to have a general anaesthetic. I've had several cardioversions and they were all carried out that way. What hospital did your dad go to?
Please dont worry. AF doesn't kill just feels like it might! It is life changing but not life ending. In fact if people look long and hard at their life styles , diets. drinking habits etc many find it changes for the better.
My dad has certainly cut down a lot on his drinking habits. going back in AF a few weeks ago has shocked him in to thinking again before lifting a pint!
Its actually made me think about my lifestyle too.
Don't know, they didn't mention giving me anything and when they said they were going to do it without a general anaesthetic and in the A&E cubicle, well that was enough to shock me back into sinus rhythm!
Mine went back just before a cardioversion too. The nurse started jumping up and down in excitement. The lucky thing about that was the cardioverson was delayed about 5 hours due to a more urgent matter. I had been given a amiodarone bolus to help it on its way. Other times amiodarone drip has always worked very effectively.
My persistent AF reverted on its own after about 6 months. It happened while i was asking the croupier that i wanted to cash my chips in when i was on a cruise in February
