Taking Mg and Losec

How can you takes magnesium effectively if you also need to take Losec (Omeprazole)? I understand the Losec prevents absorbtion of Mg.

We are encouraged to increase Mg intake to help the AF.

Any ideas folks? Your help/thoughts would be much appreciated.

I think you have answered your own question.

I wonder if the Magnesium skin sprays might work?

Personally I can’t take Magnesium supplements at all so I have regular baths with added minerals - I use sea salts, a balance of minerals with high Magnesium content. Certainly works for me.

How interesting CDreamer, magnesium spray. I see you can get what is called an Mg oil which is really Mg in water which gives it an oily texture. The 'oil' might be better than a spray to get the concentration high enough to be of benefit. They suggest it's applied to the arms and legs to have a large enough area to be effective. Too much of it can lead to loose stools.

I see it's also being considered as a moisturiser substitute for you girls.

They say you can make it yourself so I think I should take the contents of some of the pills I've purchased and add some water and see where it leads me. At least that way I'll know the concentration.

Thanks for the tip.

I have an autoimmune disease Myasthenia gravis - it’s a neuro muscular condition which presents with weak muscles - Magnesium facilitates muscles to relax which can be good for most people but it makes muscle weakness much worse for Myasthenics and can induce a crisis which affects chest muscles which compromises breathing so not smomething to chance really.

Even bathing in Epsom Salts is too much for me, did it once and was 3 days before I could get out of bed!

Crikey! Thank you for explaining.

Its strange isnt it because many people discount the value of taking supplements and think they dont work, however your disease proves that taking extra does have an effect and for you a serious one.

Which is why you always need to check with doctor and or pharmacist for contraindications. One lady recently posted about low blood pressure and mentioned taking Hibiscus tea - which is known to lower BP.

Thanks for that reminder. I had actually emailed him to confirm all was OK. He responded by saying it was not a subsidised medicine any longer, which I took to mean I could take it but had to source it myself.

I've been sprinkling about 250mg of Mg on my breakfast cereal for about a month and hadn't noticed any difference in my health and was thinking of increasing the dosage. I'll start taking the same dose as an 'oil' and see what happens.

I have taken Losec for many years to control reflux. I have a swollen oesophagus as a result. I understand Losec reduces stomach acid and as a results stops the absorption of Mg.

My brother advised me to try magnesium tablets for more energy and I took them and they did seem to improve my energy, they are huge though, I never realised the connection with antacids though and did have bad heartburn which was unusual for me and now taking ranatadine to quell the heartburn.

I have got the magnesium spray but havent tried it yet, wasnt sure where to put it teally?

Anywhere on body arms and legs but follow with moisturizer.

Interesting that you need to follow up with a moisturiser. I read on the net that some woman are using Mg oil as a replacement for their normal lotions. I'll take your advice as I don't want any skin issues.

Many thanks

ReMag works really well, it is absorbed differently than a pill, my husband takes PPI and had was having severe palpitations which really scared him, after about two weeks on the ReMag they slowed way down and have now stopped.

I'll definitely be giving it a try. Your husbands experience with improved health shows Mg can be readily absorbed through the skin.

Many thanks
