Ablation with a head cold

jedimasterlincoln profile image

Been some lurgy going round our family this week, low and behold with my ablation on Tuesday it all kicked off for me this weekend. The other half took 3 days to get rid so I'll be cutting it fine.

Do you think they'll still do it if I'm sniffing/sneezing? Given the fact it involves lying still. I'm worried they'll cancel.

I expect all hospitals are different but I was told that so long as I was not bringing up coloured sputum I would be OK.

I had similar for my 2nd ablation and woke that morning with a sore throats and fully expected them to cancel. They took swabs from nose and throats which all came back clear so they went ahead. I wouldn't second gues it unless as Bob says, you are bringing up colored sputum.

I had mine at UHSM and was told to give them a ring if feeling unwell and or cold...good luck

The blurb given to me beforehand said if you have a cold, let them know. I had a sniff and felt 'coldy', rang up the secretary the day before and she didn't know what to do, said I was the first who had rung up like this! She asked EP who said should be ok but if it got worse let them know. Still felt same on the day, no worse and all went ahead, no issues to report.

You didn't sneeze during it?

Fortunately not! I wasn't at a sneezing phase, just sniffling and a feeling of not being well.

The cold air in the cath lab would not help either.

At my recent procedure they had a heated foil blanket over most of me.

Mine was the other way around, I had the catheter ablation and came home with a rotten cold, hard sneezing fits etc., and I really don't think this helped with recovery at all. Speak to your medics and ask the question

Rang UHSM this morning and the sister said I should be fine. Time to make the three day 120 mile trip!

best wishes with you

I'm here and cannulated. Apart from a bit of a blocked nose I'm ok! Update you all later!
