Hello all,
I am currently on the waiting list for an ablation, as my newly diagnosed P-AF is not controlled well by medication. Flecainide/Bisoprolol did not work for me. I have now just started on Amiodarone as the last alternative to take for only a few months prior to the ablation. You can imagine my nervousness with this drug! Fingers crossed short-term use does not cause any problems in the meantime!
Needless to say, I have some anxiety over this condition. It frustrates me that I am unable to control it with diet, exercise, lifestyle changes, etc. I've tried it all and had almost every test imaginable and there is nothing wrong with me, aside from the AF. So be it, on I will go on this journey.
I would love to support and volunteer for the AFA, and wondered if there are some fellow AF'ers that might want join me helping others. We have the upcoming Global AF Aware Week: heartrhythmalliance.org/afa... the Week of Nov 20-26 that looks to be a great opportunity to start some support groups or AF awareness for the public.
Anyone else interested in helping others? I believe it will also help me personally with the anxiety to speak with others who are on or have travelled this same path.
I live in West Berkshire but happy to travel within an hour or two radius to plan AF awareness events or meet up for coffee chats or support groups. I see the AFA has some great resources for us on their website.
If there are volunteering opportunities already in process in my area, please let me know, as I'm happy to help.
I have been pretty aggressive in managing my medical care and researching this disease, and hope that I can help others as needed- if only to listen and understand. Based on this amazing forum, I know there are others out there who are scared like me, yet strong enough to help others who might need it, or help raise awareness for this disease.
I will be attending the patient's day in Birmingham on October 1st, and look forward also to the Pink Carnation supper on Septmeber 30th. I am looking forward to meeting others for support and knowledge.
If there's anyone out there who would like to put together some awareness events or run a local support group here South East England, please send me a private message and I'll be in contact.
Kind regards,
Kelli
