My 12 year old just had an ablation. She started having migraines the following morning. She never had them before. Has anyone else experienced this? For how long do this last and what's causing it? I don't think either of us can deal with this much longer. Thanks!

Sorry to hear that you are having this worry for your daughter right now.
Migraine like symptoms are usually quite normal after an ablation and should disappear over the next few weeks. I really don't know why specialists don't give everyone a list of what they may expect healthwise after an ablation. She needs to rest for the first week and then not do too much for the second and may experience extreme bouts of tiredness in that time. The way each person recovers afterwards can vary greatly. I've had three ablations and felt differently after each one, after the first I felt worn out for about 2 weeks, the second I felt worse than the first and couldn't walk long distances for about 6 weeks. After the third I felt fine immediately and had no problems other than the migraine aura that your daughter is experiencing

Your poor wee child. What a lot to go through so young. I have heard that migraine is quite common after ablation but that it does settle quickly enough . I had an ablation last week and thankfully have only had one severe headache. I am prone to migraines generally though and some good advice I was given was to not get hungry, thirsty or tired. These tips have helped my migraines decrease as I used to skip breakfast a lot but now I never do. I also definitely have worse migraine auras when I am tired. I hope your child makes a speedy recovery.
I have a friend who was given a list of things that could happen after ablation and she's refusing to have one because of the fact that one of the things she was told scared her so much! I keep telling her she needs to get it done but she won't listen, so it is really good to hear that a child has had an ablation and got through it, albeit with hopefully temporary migraines.
Hope your daughter continues to improve and the migraines stop soon x
The first three days after my ablation, I had migraines! They have subsided; although, I still have a bit of a headache. I was told by the physician's assistant who called to check on my progress that migraines are a side effect of ablations in a rare few.
The cause: If I was to guess I would say the ablation has aggravated the Vagus Nerve, which connects the heart and brain. In the past, I have read ways of calming the Vagus Nerve but I expect some peace and quiet will do a lot.
I thought it was just me! I've had migraines for many years every so often, but since my ablation 10 days ago I've had visual disturbance (jaggies) and headaches virtually every day! So relieved to hear that 1) others have had it and 2) it goes away after a while!
