Any HGV Drivers on here with advice on getting your licence back

Hi I was just wondering how the DVLA are with reinstating the HGV licence. Mine was revoked due to AF. I still don't have my car entitlement back from them yet and have filled the same form in four times.. Anyway after Cardioversion if I'm stable for 3 months I can have it back. How quick to they deal with it. Thanks.

G'day Decka59,

The DVLA and DVSA are two of the most incompetent and useless of any government agency. Not fit for purpose! The Medical Services part of DVLA are even worse than your worst nightmare!

I hold a PCV and back in the day when AF hit me they revoked my PCV but not my car licence. They reinstated my PCV in about 8 weeks. That was Jan 2010. I'm still driving but have a medical each year which so far I seem to pass OK.

My work buddy has a cataract and has just had his PCV revoked, but not his car licence. He has been about a month so far. He got a text from DVLA the other day saying they had reviewed his case and were writing a letter to him. Just to spin out his worries.

His big fear is they will not give him his PCV back until he has surgery and he can't even get to his Consultant till 30 August.

John

Left me with car license once I'd answered questions. If ok to drive surely ok to drive any vehicles?

Get that

I have had two episodes of AF, the first in July 2015 and it took till April 2016 to receive my HGV licence back, and another December 2016 and I got my licence back last week. I can understand it can take a while to recover from treatment and the DVLA need to be sure there are no further complications, I however have been unable to work and find myself somewhat unemployable being off work so long (my employer has let me go) It takes rather a long time for departments to contact each other, I'm sure my case has been filed under 'leave it a few months' - here's hoping you're a bit more successful in getting yours back!!

The DVA Medical Group say that you should allow 8 weeks for a decision. The medical requirements for HGV and PSV are higher than for car drivers.

If your licence to drive a car is rescinded for eye sight reasons there has to be a gap of at least 12 months before you apply to have it reconsidered, even if you have 6/6 vision but not 120 degree horizontal field of view.
