apixaban: Hi folks got AF and am on... - Atrial Fibrillati...
apixaban
Are you having a pre op assessment if so ask then or phone consultants Sec for advice. Go through hospital switchboard if you don't have number
Hi,
Best to ring the hospital to ask. It may depend on what they are looking for- if they expect to find polyps that need snipping off for example- but the doctors will let you know
I'm on apixaban and I am having the same procedure myself this Sunday rang my consultant and was told it will be ok to miss the one dose in the morning on the day of procedure hope this helps
I had same earlier in the year and consultant said didn't need to stop and I had polyp removed . But best to speak to consultant before .
The general advice is to stop Apixaban 48 hours before surgery. If the risk of bleeding is lower, then it might be modified to 24 hours or one dose. So the answer is dependent on the invasiveness of the procedure.
I'm not medically qualified though - your consultant is!
I had same procedure last December and I also had to ring the hospital and check. I found then very vague at the time however still have my note written down at time that said - not to take on morning off procedure - they referenced not having it 12 hours before procedure. Always check with them but hopefully what they say and our experiences tie in .
It does not usually result in bleeding unless some polyps are found and removed. Ask but my experience was 12 hours and the surgeon was terrified of noacs!
Waiting for the same thing and have been told to stop warfarin 5 days before. In my case if anything needs doing it will be done there and then.
I had a colonoscopy and was told did not need to stop. I was told they were not expecting to remove any polyps. If they found anything that risked bleeding I would be called back and then I would have to stop apixaban. Call them!!
We would suggest that you discuss this by phone or email with your consultant. Some consultants are happy to perform minor procedures whilst you continue your anticoagulant therapy.
