Redders ..sorry this has happened but not at all unusual I'm afraid.

I don't think you can ever say that you are cured of AF. You can be relieved of the symptoms for variable lengths of time from weeks to many years.

I would try to be more philosophical about it . What will be will be. You can try to adopt all the life style changes advocated, particularly after an ablation, and then hope for the best. A few hours of AF is nothing to be too worried about. I wish my episodes only lasted that long. You may be clear now for months. Who can say ?

Best wishes

Sandra

My second only lasted about nine months but my third is still working at nine years.

Wow that's great Bob. Where did you have it done and what age were you when you had your 3rd ablation?

There are positives here for you Redders. Anyone who has had AF knows that it could come back, however successful an ablation may appear to be, so the knife edge you are now on has always been there really. It could be ages before it happens again, or it might be a one off ,,,

If your AF resolved after four hours, it will probably behave like that again if it does come back.

I do so know how you feel and that gutted disappointed feeling. I had a 20 minute episode 10 months after ablation number 3. The EP said it may be a one off, but that is all they can say , lets see how it goes.....and live life!

Im off to US on Wednesday with EP blessing so a little apprehensive! Ive told my insurance company so fingers crossed.

But I do know how you are feeling as I feel terrible and incapacitated when I ever have had an AF episode over the years.

Take care!

So sorry to hear, Let's hope it's a one off. My second was also June last year so I've got everything crossed!

did it resolve itself or did you need medication ?

I take flecainide 50 mg twice daily and the af came on about 2pm. I did take a 2mg of diazepam and then my second flecainide about an hour later so that may have helped. My doctor won't give me any more diazepam and I've only got 1 left. Eeek

I'm still on my first ablation and I was disappointed when after a year I had 2 AF attacks in close proximity. My EP put me back on my (previous) medication, which was Flecainide, and since then virtually no unusual activity. He explained that the ablation can sometimes restore the impact of drugs which had previously lost their effectiveness, which had certainly been the case with me. Even if I am only winding the clock back for a few years, that is still a bonus for me. I'm not sure if you were taking anything anyway when you had your AF, but that is what is working for me, for now at least! Good luck

Yes Bob I am on 50mg flecainide twice daily and have been since my second ablation. I'm hoping it was a one off. Fingers crossed

I know how disappointed I was when the AF broke through again. We are looking for a perfect cure, but seems like a long journey sometimes with lots of ups and downs. What I have learnt is that trying to stay positive is the real key to keeping your quality of life. I am still much better placed than I was pre ablation, and that gives me the motivation to look forward.

So sorry to hear your AF has returned. I know how upsetting that can be. I needed 3 ablations to stop my AF. the consultant wouldnt say I was cured after the last one but he did say he was very hopeful. That was 18 months ago and touch wood no more AF to date. I live in hope that the AF wont return.

Best wishes to you

Carole

Well I'll wait and see if I have any more episodes. Hopefully not but if I do I'll contact my EP and try for another ablation. Do you know if there is a age limit for ablations ?

I dont know if there is an age limit but I was 72 when I had my 3rd ablation
