Has anyone tried acupuncture to cure their AF?
Acupuncture: Has anyone tried... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Acupuncture
My physio wont give me accupuncture even though she thinks it would be beneficial. She says it is contraindicated because Im on anticoagulants. Groan...
I'm afraid your physio probably does not really know what acupuncture is, or how it's done. I take anticoagulants and have been on acupuncture for two years. It causes no bleeding. My physio carefully checked any possible complications taking both together and said there were none.
Yes, I have ............ no it didn't work.
I asked a very experienced acupuncturist about this. She was advocating acupuncture for virtually everything you can think of. She told me it doesn't work for AF.
How about for premature atrial contractions?
I use a TENS machine for muscle strain and it has an acupuncture pen , works well on strains but I cant see how you could get the pulse to the atrial chamber.
The TENS machine works by overloading the pain receptors at the point of strain so they cannot transmit the pain pulse to the brain - or something like that
I was warned never use tens when you suffer with AF
I asked before purchasing the TENS machine ($20 - ouch! )
and was told no problem .
I,m not in AF at the moment and use it once a week 2 x 15min.
Used it more often than that when in PAF , didnt notice any variation.
What reason was given and who by?
The heart team, said electricity pushed through the body can set of AF
That's not how acupunture works and I don't know think they knew anything about it.
And if you were more observant you would see I replied to the post regarding tens machine
I have monthly acupuncture for general well-being. Don't regard it as a magic cure for af but something which will help your health overall. Try a few sessions.
Yes. I got a guy to thread 4 needles from my groin into my heart. He pierced the membrane between the right and left atrium and burnt a whole lot of scars on the inside of the left atrium with the "needles". Now that's what I call acupuncture that works!
No, but I did try burning dried copper beech leaves and grinding the resulting ash with fresh snow drop petals. Mix with lucozade and sip slowly just after midnight.
Works a treat for me.
I also have it for a back problem which helps. but didn't do anything for AF
There is mixed research on this. I guess it also depends on what your root cause to afib is. Personally I think taking a multifaceted approach is good as long as you remain open and accepting.
I am on blood thinners and go to acupuncture several times a month. It greatly helps to support another health issue I have, and improves my quality of life, but it has zero impact on AF.
I did try it last year and I am afraid that it didn't work.
Just down loaded to my Kindle. Thank you.
Thank you everybody for all your comments both humorous and serious. I'm generally sceptical of alternative therapies but like to keep an open mind. I'll just have to wait for ablation number 2.
I have persistent AFIB, take blood thinners, and I get acupuncture. During the procedure, I am very relaxed. I had hoped that it might result in cardioversion, but my heart seems stuck in persistent AFIB... even electro-cardioversion did not work. Based on how I feel during and after the procedure, I think it might work very well for those with paroxysmal AFIB.... or at least help to calm the heart rate. It certainly helps mine beat more slowly.
Hope you give it a try to see if it works for you.
Best wishes,
Karen
