I've been taking omeprazol for a year now. I have palpitations which seem to be getting more frequent and last for longer. Should I be concerned?

That's an interesting post, I'm on Omeprozole too. Are you asking if it causes palps?

I was on Omeprazole for many years....acid reflux caused by hiatus hernia. This drug is not to be taken long term and has long term side effects...look up long term use of on the internet. I managed to wean myself off it.First of all by changing to Ranitidine ..then cutting this down to 1 a day for a couple of weeks and having the odd Rennie. Now I treat myself without the use of drugs. First drink in the morning iis hot water with juice of half a lemon squeezed in ..a teaspoon of honey and half a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda. Same drink early evening....remedy used before the big drug companies started making their millions! And no side effects.

Has not eliminated my AF but am happier to be relieved of one drug.

Just a suggestion.

I think most PPI's can cause palpitations. I was on 80mg a day of esmoprazole for severe acid reflux and i had palpitations quite bad, when i reduced the dosage after a Nissen Funduplication back in 2012 at 40mg i noticed the palpitations had reduced somewhat. I have been on PPI's since 2003. I still take PPI's everyday, everyone is different, I always read the leaflets that come with any medication or search online for any side affects. I have AF, SVT, A-Flutter, Angina, Spasms of the arteries, conary micro vascular disease and i have a duel pacemaker

That is very interesting though most unfortunate for you. I was told many years ago I had spasms of the arteries. Last time I had a bad attack of AF/tachycardia I had heart attack symptoms but no clot was found. How did you find out about the coronary microvascular disease?

Hi Buffafly, I have had stress MRI which i could not tolorate due to asthma, also have had stress and rest nuclear medicne scan, echo's, angiogram's the whole works in the last 4 to 5 years. The top man at my local hospital said after the first angiogram we do know you have coronary microvascular disease and also angina that was back in 2013, the attack of that lasts upto an hour even using the nitro pump. I did have a mild heart attack in 2012 and a TIA in 2011 and i was on warfarin at the time abiet they could not always keep me in range. Also the top man said i am not to have anymore ablations because of the way my heart is, last ablation was is 2012 for AF-SVT it did help somewhat but still get AF-SVT and flutter thrown in if it wants to show its self .lol
