Hey Everyone ! Hope ur feeling good ! I did my ablation 3 months ago ! And I started a diet called Cambridge Diet which is just eating soup and something like oats the first 2 weeks ! I did that because I gained lots of weight recently.. doing such a diet is ok ? Or it can affects the cryoablation and Afib ?

Diets are emotive Karrim. Personally I think just eat less. It always worked for me when I needed it. Will it affect your ablation.? No reason why it would but best to eat sensibly and stay well hydrated in my humble opinion. Diets may well deplete some minerals and salts so always discuss with your doctor.

Vlcd such as Cambridge or any drastic calorie reduced diet can cause arrhythmias. I checked with my GP and was strongly advised against it.

There is a lot of evidence about diet and links to AFib. You may also find some of the side affects to the drugs impact on body weight. Finally with AFib you are likely to be doing less exercise and this may contribute to weight gain. In addition magnesium may be deficient in your diet. You need to eat a healthy heart diet which gives you the right vitamins and minerals. A Mediterranean diet is best, fruit, veg, fish etc. There are lots of advice on web sites that provide guidance. Then finally less in than out in terms of calories and this done through a mix of diet and moderate exercise will be best. The loss needs to be slow 1-2 lbs per week and a lifestyle change in what and how you eat rather than a diet. Best of luck

You should be able to get enough through your diet with minor modifications to what you eat. I suggest this before any supplements. Have a look for magnesium rich foods on the web and build them into your diet.

I think that these diets are not very good for you as they are lacking in so many ways. When I was diagnosed with AF it was the wake-up call that I needed. I joined Slimming World. The thing about their eating plan is that it is healthy and sustainable. I had my ablation 15 months ago and got down to my target weight 11 months ago. I've been great since.

It is good to want to get rid of excess weight, as it does put a strain on your heart, but please do it sensibly.

Good luck, Lynn

PS I take Magnesium Taurate capsules

I've been doing the Dr Hyman blood sugar solution diet mixed with his 10 day detox (books available of both they are low carb diets) and have lost 2 stone and my AFib has halved in duration.

I get AF every fourth day but now it only lasts 12-24 hours not 48 hours
