Atrial tachichardia: Hello and Marry... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Atrial tachichardia
Atrial tachycardia is different from Atrial fibrillation in that the rhythm is regular but fast. Like AF it can be very scary but it won't kill you even though it may feel like it sometimes. A lot depends on your rate as to how you feel. On the three or four occasions when my AF turned into AT the rate settled at 140 bpm and stayed there until I was cardioverted back to a more sensible 80 ish. Drugs did little other than hold the rate down to 140. Since you have been prescribed flecainide one must assume that you have been treated by a hospital cardiologist since GPs should not prescribe this drug in the first instance.
Regarding your other questions I have travelled many time in both AF and AT but I accept that we are all individuals with different levels of acceptance and capacity to deal with our conditions. I would suggests that you do what you feel capable of where sex is concerned but would not think it dangerous. That is all a distance memory for me since prostate cancer and subsequent surgery but seem to recall it quite fun.
Hi I am new to AF and have found it a scary journey but have been helped by understanding more about it. Have you looked at the information on the Arrhythmia Alliance website? There is lots of useful information. heartrhythmalliance.org/aa/uk/
The British heart foundation website is also good, and I see that they have a nurse whom you can phone up with your questions.
The Harefield and Brompton NHS had very useful info on AF, at the bottom is a note on Atrial Tachycardia rbht.nhs.uk/patients/condit...
Good luck
Yes, I too had Tachycardia and became fearful of traveling due to the 200+ bpm's that I would go into daily. I had a job where I had to travel extensively. I could be on the road or in a plane or airport and the tachy would come on. I often felt as if I was going to faint due to the rapid rate. My cardio did put me on flecainide to take daily but I did not like the side effects and I still had heart issues just not the high rate bpm. I started taking the pill in the pocket of flec. only as needed and it helped somewhat. I ended up having a cardiac ablation in March of 2016. I have not had tachy since, although I do still experience extra beats that can be bothersome but not as scary as the tachy. It is not life threatening just extremely uncomfortable. It is safe to travel and have sex, you will not die from this just be uncomfortable when it starts but flec. should help with that. I also figured out that I had gluten sensitivity and it was/is my heart that reacts, aspartame, chocolate and alcohol all triggered it for me too. I had to drastically change my diet to help with the extra beats that I still have that average up to 90 bpm now, which is considerably lower than pre ablation bpm. Hope this helps. I too was very afraid of this and people who never experienced it will never be able to understand how debilitating this is.
