Av node ablations

Why do they seem fairly common on this site. Where I live they tend to be avoided unless last resort or other issues.

Yes your perfectly right in saying that an AV node Ablation is the last resort.

In my case I failed all of that anti-arrhythmic drugs, I had two failed RF Ablations as well as a failed Cardioversion.

I was in constant Atrial Flutter with persistent Atrial Fibrillation. Therefore the only fix for me was an AV Node Ablation.

Others may have a different story..

Cheers

I think you are confusing this site with real life. There are millions of people in the world with AF and only a very few thousand inhabit this site. Then take into account that probably only a quarter of members contribute and maybe half a dozen regulars. Of those I can only think of less that ten who have been down that route.

I do not agree with your assessment of it being common at all. In fact it shows how rare it is and yes a last resort.

Look at the NHS England or NICE (I can't remember which) report which shows number of ablations and PACE and ablates.

The uk figures state about 15% of ablations are av node . About 3000 per year for our population of 64 million, so 1 in 21,000 if my maths is correct.

But the figures vary significantly depending on where you live!

So 15℅ of all ablations are AV node? i am in the US and that seems high as I would say here most ablations are PVI or spot ablations. Or are ablations just less common there.

I had one ep say after his failed ablation all he could do was an av node ablation or refer to more skilled ep. Went with an even more skilled ep and glad I did.

Hi

I have tried all the usual medications and had 3 Pv ablations and am now seeing my ep to discuss an AV node ablation.I had a pacemaker fitted in April and had AF last week. In my case it always comes back so the only permanent cure would seem to be AF bode ablation. It does seem to be the final solution (hopefully)!!!
