Hi, my son (47) has just been given a new inhaler (clenil modulate), having used only ventolin for years. He has a fib, like me. He noted that every time he uses the inhaler (clenil mod) it seems to trigger a fib. Has anyone else ever heard of this reaction, or experienced it themselves? JanR
a fib and asthma: Hi, my son (47) has... - Atrial Fibrillati...
a fib and asthma
Seems unusual as its a steroid and so should have no significant cardiac effects
Try a different steroid inhaler
Hi,
I was switched to that when I started AF because ventolin was said to trigger things.
Have been fine and , since finding and correcting low potassium, no AF, so clonal modulate is not a trigger. It has more long term action than ventolin
Thank you for your replies. My son was told there was more likely to be a problem on ventolin, rather than on the clenil. However, I have done a bit of digging on the 'net, and there is indeed a slight risk of af when using clenil. But it is very small. Maybe my son is just unlucky!
He may be allergic to it. Does he have any other symptoms that would suggest a sensitivity to anything he might be exposed to? I'm thinking his response could be related to mast cell activation.
I too couldn't take Clenil. A change of steroid made a massive difference. Please ask for an alternative.
Thanks for your reply. Did you mean that Clenil actually triggered your afib? And by 'alternative' do you mean an alternative preventative treatment altogether, or an alternative steroid?
I would say yes Clenil affected my AF. The change to Qvar, breath activated steroid was good. I am still on Qvar and watch out for my 6 month post ablation post next week. Can't do it now, my computer has gone to sleep..waiting for my daughter in law to come and fix it, so am doing this on my tablet.. very slow.
Do try to change from Clenil... it doesn't agree with everyone.
Thank you Enjoy, that was a useful post.
