Collie dog 1: Does anyone have ant... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Collie dog 1
I have been on various doses of bisoprolol, up to 10 mg with no stomach problems at all. By contrast, a daily mini aspirin made my stomach feel like a great big lump.
Hi collie dog 1 I was on bisoplorol up until 2 weeks ago and I did get lots of stomach aches normally in the morning before breakfast. I'm now on sotalol and these pills don't give me stomach ache but it's early days yet
I have been in bisoprolol and flecainide for two years now, with no side-effects until three weeks ago when I noticed persistent stomach ache in the morning. I have played around with my doses and suspect the flecainide is to blame, but it could be the bisoprolol. I was given different brands of both about three weeks ago, which is when the problems began. I will be interested to hear what your gastro doctor has to say about your reaction.
Hi there colliedog,
You seem very sure that Bisoprolol is the cause of your tummy upsets. You don't say what other medication you are on or what sort of AF you have.
I've been on Bisoprolol now for 6 and half years no tummy problems. Yes, I had a problems in the first 6 months of going on it. I was originally prescribed it to take in the morning, however, I developed massive nose bleeds. Nothing to do with the warfarin I was on either I might add. I went back to my GP and had a moan and she consulted her book of magic potions and brews and said take it at night. I did this and have never had a problem with bisoprolol ever since.
In those first 6 months of being diagnosed with AF I eventually realised that the onset of AF followed food I'd eaten and various tummy issues. These tummy issues were, massive bloating putting pressure on my chest and around my heart area, burping, very loud intestinal gurgling, and diahorrea. not all at the same time, all at random but the common and regular one was bloating.
My GP checked me out for IBS and Coeliac Disease - all clear. I then consulted a nutritionist who put me on a course of probiotics and suggest some diet modification including considering the FODMAPS diet. I have done this and now have my AF and tummy issues totally controlled and my last recorded AF event was in April 2015.
The common denominator here is the Vagal or Vagus Nerve - a major nerve in the central nervous system which influences many parts of our body but specifically controls the heart and the digestive system.
So there we are, just a different tack for you to consider.
Good luck,
John
Thank you John.......all that sounds very familiar....i have all those.........was diagnosed with ibs a few yrs ago.......but these symptoms only started whe i first had AF and went onto bisoprolol and riveraxiban......and i have paroxyl(spelling..?) af........i have gastro app in the morning...will bring all this up....thanx agen.
Hi colliedog ...... its paroxysmal AF - same as me ! From what I have researched one is more likely to get an understanding from a Gastro consultant re Vagal Nerve than you are from a cardiac consultant. I have to say that I am still on this diet and the range of stuff I cannot, dare not eat is amazing. BUT, I have just worked on the basis that calm the vagal nerve then you calm the heart. I should also say I've had no surgical intervention, no ablations, nothing. Just diet.
Briefly, food I cannot touch is; pork, long green beans, baked beans, peas, lettuce, oats, onions (but spring onions are OK), anything with gluten and wheat, real ales, strawberries are OK, Raspberries are no good. Gooseberries OK and red currents too are fine. That's a start Lol!
Good luck tomorrow - if I can help/comment further then let me know - send me a personal message on here.
John
