Really feel for you colliedog......don't know what to say that would really help as clearly you need some specialist help to get into a treatment program thats right for you. Can you try asking if you can they can refer you to see a specialist asap. Maybe this has to done via your GP, but nothing ventured....nothing gained. We are hearing such awful stories about NHS and the pressures A&E are under at the moment and I expect the fact that its the weekend doesn't help. Try taking some comfort from at least being in the right place for the moment and let's hope that it brings about the kind of help you really need to get your condition under control......good luck, John
Hi - It's a hateful condition isn't it!
Just what is your heart doing? Is it racing (how many BPM), out of rhythm or both? Also can you remind me what tablets you are taking to control the condition?
Jean
Been to hossy agen..wasnt in af this time...bpm was 66......found i was havin ectopic ?..i think that was it...extra beat...they think anxiety maybe the cause of this one...havin a moniter on next week.....and so it goes on..
I wondered if the 'banging' might include ectopics which are pretty unbearable sometimes not to mention scary 😱 so that explains a lot, good thing they found out. Good news on the monitor too, maybe now you can get treatment that is actually helpful 🙏
Sorry to hear that. Don't forget AF is very unlikely to kill you, but I know with me it was a long time before I could believe this. Eleven years on and I've known for a long time now not to worry so much. Only need to worry if it makes you feel faint, sick or have chest/neck/arm pain. Let us know how you get on.
Wishing you well.
Jean
It's more than their medical insurance will cover to say anything other than come back if it's not improving. However it seems like you can be pretty confident they are unlikely to provide any useful advice regarding therapy and you need to get booked in to see the ep. Privately if necessary
Hi, I know the palpitations are uncomfortable but if they were dangerous they would have kept you in hospital. The ECGs and blood tests would have told them if your heart was under strain.
I went to A & E because my doctor told me to (chest pain, presyncope, fast AF), laid in A&E for hours, blood tests showed pos heart attack, taken to monitor ward, then back to Resus, then EAU, no room in cardiology so spent night in ENT ward not allowed to walk anywhere, in hospital all next day because blood tests worse, angiogram next morning, no clot found, home with new meds. The hospital care was the best they could do but I would rather have been in my peaceful comfy home!
I am sorry you are on your own, that must make things seem worse. I guess you are not going to feel better in hospital though. If you do go in again perhaps they could give you something to help you relax if they won't refer you to cardiology straight away.
Colliedog you are really struggling and physically obviously extremely uncomfortable. My EP has assured me many times that paroxysmal arrhythmias can be described as "torture". I know that is little comfort but at the same time it has helped me to know that the awful way I feel is "normal" within the context of the condition I have. Once I realised this, I worked on accepting it which has been massively important to me in living my life as fully as possible again. In your case, maybe you are in the early stages of diagnosis and are very unsure of what is happening. This is SO daunting and every single person on this forum can relate to that I am sure. Is there anyone that could come and be in your home with you for some company. Or could you contact your GP and tell them how you are feeling.. Both physically and emotionally? When I start to feel low I have learned that the best way to feel better is to decide on being proactive. For me that means speaking to AF friends on this forum and contacting family and friends who are my support network. Also writing a list of concerns and questions and planning these for my next appointments. Or going to my GP or whatever. Also doing something enjoyable like a good film... Despite the physical discomfort it does help. I just feel so bad for you Colliedog.. It is so palpable how miserable you feel. Please be comforted that many of us understand and are rooting for you as we all do for each other. If you do go back to A and E explain very clearly what your physical discomfort is and your frustrations. You can be admitted to coronary care for monitoring and review and referral to an EP. Many people reacted A and E several times and are admitted to coronary care on many occasions before their arrhythmias get under control. I have been told of this by staff when I have been an inpatient. Sending you so many warm wishes and keep using the forum for support. It is so invaluable xx
