This may sound daft... But... When you say in permanent AF.... Can you feel the bumping in your chest or is it just high heart rate.... Its the jumping around sensation that freaks me out.

The bag of frogs is typical AF but many people in permanent AF are asymptomatic and do not feel this. Not sure why but one assumes that the body got used to it gradually and adapted. This is one reason why we think screening for AF important as there are thousands out there at stroke risk because they do not know they have AF.

My husband is in permanent AF. His pulse is irregularly irregular but not particularly fast. He doesn't notice it at all and has no symptoms directly attributable to AF ( He's had stents and has dicky aortic valve too.

It is amazing how ignorant most of us are when we first get diagnosed. I don't think most GP's know all that much about it. My husband has permanent AF (now in abeyance after a couple of ablations) but I have the occasional kind. It is the 'box of frogs' which I think of as AF. It was this that first send me to the Dr about three years ago. However, I haven't had many attacks and have twice managed to hold off one when I knew I probably would have got one without my precautions. (take an extra beta blocker in the morning.)

Mine comes with a high heart rate as well as the frogs.

However, I am a bit less frightened of having an attack now which helps.

Good luck!

Katie

I take 50mg when it starts... If no change after an hr... Take another 50mg....takes a couple of hrs after that but it settles... Well most of the time.... This last run didn't.. Found out I had water infection... Heart didn't like it so protested with a 14 hr run.. X

Really difficult to know how much to take . They say it takes 6 hours to reach max strength in the system , I have been told to take 3x50mg at outset , usually reverts in 3 hours, §which would suggest that’d more than needed but have tried the gradual approach and it can take a lot longer..

My heart rate never goes quite that high but I am on 5mg of bisoperol. It is tough but it does sort of become part of the way we live.

I have permanent AF. When I had Paroxysmal AF it was a speedy irregular heartbeat which felt awful.

Now it's the same but all the time at a much slower heart rate , between 70 and 110 while resting, but doesn't feel awful. I have no feelings of discomfort. I may have symptoms of breathlessness from time to time but I also have asthma and it could be that.

Yesterday I thought I felt it was faster during the night but I think that was in a dream.

Today I have a nurse-led annual asthma and cardiovascular appointment lasting up to 40 minutes

Apart from an anticoagulant, warfarin being my choice, I don't take any medication for it.

Mine had a quivering feeling then it would thump totally out of rhythm and a fast heart rate...I actually felt awful when I was in AF....unfortunately for me I went on to have a heart a attack and a stroke even though I was on the appropriate drugs. I've had 2 ablations and was still in AF...Amiodarone is the only thing that keeps mine in check I know it's a bad drug but it gives mea quality of live. Good luck on your journey I hope you get sorted as most people seem to do. I think I have just been unlucky. Good Luck x

I am in permanent AF. No symptoms, no breathlessness - I just take the daily meds. 10 mg Bisoprolol (that seems high to me - does it seem high to others?), 2X day Pradaxa, 2.5 mg Lisinopril.
