HI all.... just curious and no intention of trying but some of the American arrithmia forums seem to promote marijuana as an aid to decrease the heart rate when its racing. The high CBD content is apparently proven to decrease anxiety in some and slow the heart rate. Just curious on anyones opinion on this...! X x x

Yes we are just watching it now ..... x
Tried twice, just a puff, and got palpitations both times. That was before I had Af.
Just remember the THC in the drug has properties that will stimulate you for periods, and although the drug is used for calming people down this can affect you drastically and I would say almost certainly bring on an AF episode. The 'whitey' that some people get from taking this drug is pretty bad on its own, with AF I would be very careful. For me, I wouldnt do it, and trust me if it helped I would be at the front of the queue.
Don't shoot me folks, it's just how my body feels in the vicinity of these things and the mental picture those aromas paint on my inner well being. I feel unsteady now just thinking about it. 😂👀
It depends on the person. THC makes my heart pound and race uncomfortably. When I was a teenager and susceptible to peer pressure, friends would occasionally pass a joint and I'd inhale the smallest amount possible, out of politeness. Even with virtual abstinence, I'd instantly feel my heart race and would become aware of every pounding beat. Meanwhile, my more chilled friends would happily consume joint after joint, apparently enjoying the psychological effects that I found so utterly aversive. Like Charlie Brown with the football, I kept imagining it would be a pleasant experience *next time* and would, again and again, accept joints passed to me and end up with a pounding heart, and feeling about as anxious as a nervous cat strapped to the wing of an airplane.
Yes to a glass of red wine, a gin and tonic, a single malt scotch - but a joint: no thank you
So far as I'm aware it puts the heart rate and BP up. My GP mentions it for nerve pain and neuropathy and brought up a Google article on it and said that there is plenty of it around in this town
I smoked weed like a chimney for years, decades in fact. My AF came 2 years after quitting. If that means anything at all. Where I live even looking at a joint gets you 5 years hard labour. So I'm done with it. However, if I lived in Colarado I'd look for something low in THC high in CBD. I'd eat it, not smoke it.
Putting your face into a basin of cold water for 30 seconds will also reduce your heart rate. I am not against cannabis but with electrical heart problems I would avoid it and most definitely avoid smoking it. Let us know any further research into this though and we can all join an AF commune lol
I live in Colorado where it's now legal. My experience with marijuana over the years is that it sometimes makes me anxious; from what I've read I believe it increases the heart rate. In the 18 months since diagnosis, I can't say it has ever triggered afib episode.
Thanks all for your very interesting replies. I think that as none of my tablets seem to be working I am open to any suggestions in the future but as my ablation is due in a few months I am praying that that may make things better.
Believe me I won't be trying any...im too scared to have sweetener in my tea in case it triggers AF never mind a joint!! Fibd in very interesting though ... x
