Hi there your post just caught my eye,as today I have been told that I have heart failure, which made me wobble, and also have AF , have been to hospital today and have been told to go to my dr and get him to do a referral to my cardio. This has scared the wits out of me I can cope with AF but what do about the other. How long have you had heart failure, thanks Sann

Each case would have to be judged on  its merits. Since many people live normal lives with AF (in fact many are unaware they have it,) lone AF  is unlikely to  be judged  sufficient to warrant such payment.  There does seem to be a vast range of so called disabilities as when I discussed my arthritis with my GP she thought me far too able for even a blue badge yet I see countless people tripping the light fantastic away from their Chelsea Tractors parked in disabled bays as I hobble along with my stick.

Not all disabilities are visible.

I agree, Bob. I've got a son who is wheelchair bound and it's frustrating when all the disabled spaces are taken by people, who when they return to their car, seem quite capable of walking a lot further.

hi bob yes they are people that get away with it / and people who need it don't get it ........................

In the US, there are several reliable websites detailing pertinent criteria for disability applications. It helps to identify specific loss of function, not just a diagnosis. Sometimes this is connected to medication side effects.

If anyone thinks that they should be receiving benefits, but are not, or they have applied and been turned down, I thoroughly recommend looking at the Website at BenefitsandWork.co.uk, and if they are thinking of applying/appealing they should join in order to read their publications. They have helped many people get the ESA, and DLA or PIP, that they are entitled to. Blue Badges are controlled by your Local Authority, not the Government, but if you feel that you would fall into the group that is entitled to DLA or PIP, I would ask the Local Authority for help. If you have a Physio, or an OT, they are more likely to know about benefits entitlement than ones GP, who may wish to keep out of the Political Arguments. My GP expressed a doubt that I would get DLA(Mobility OR Care) but I am actually entitled to the Top rate of both!

My gratuitous recommendation to anyone who thinks that they might be entitled, but who is turned down, is to request a reconsideration, and then APPEAL. More than half of the initial decisions are wrong, and it is peculiar that it is seldom that they give the benefits incorrectly!
