Don't envy you that for one moment. Why an ICD? Are you having long breaks in your heart beat or is it stopping from time to time for a few seconds?
Hi Bob,
Just an aside from the post.
I got a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV at the beginning of the month and have had no problems with the pacemaker in connection with the car.
There is one full page in the manual giving warnings about three or four areas in the car to keep clear of if you have a"medical device" fitted. However, as I said no problems.
Just thought I would let you know, from first hand experience, so that you know for helping others if I miss any relevant posts.
Hope you're keeping well.
Regards
Walter.
Sorry to hear that. An ICD has once be suggested for me, but they seem to have gone off the idea now! Wondering what kind of dodgy beats you are having.
Hi Wodney1966,
If youv'e only had a few "dodgy beats" I think I would want to find out more.
If you drive and have an ICD fitted then it's no driving for 1 month. If the ICD triggers and gives you a shock then it's no driving for anywhere between 6 months and a year. If it's a Prophylactic implant, (preventive) then you don't need to inform DVLA, unless you're applying for an over 70 licence.
I had a CRT/ICD pacemaker fitted last July. The choice about getting the one with the ICD was left up to me. I'm a candidate for SCA and because of living a bit remote I opted for the CRT pacemaker with ICD. Because of where I live, if I did suffer an arrest then the paramedics would never get to me in time. I'm now going through the second over 70 licence application so I now have to declare it. My EP said there should be no problem. In his opinion I'm perfectly fit to drive.
However, as I said at the start, I would certainly want to ask a lot of questions about why they think you require it.
Hope you get it resolved to your satisfaction.
Walter
Hi Wodders,I had an ICD fitted in Oct. last year. So far so good,no problems. Its done under local anaesthetic, and is a common procedure these days.Try not to get yourself worked up.
