PVI is also known as ablation so look up all the posts re that and you will see quite a few of us have been that route. In my case there times . There is also a great booklet on AF Association website about ablation which I am sure you will find useful.
A pacemaker will not stop AF so yes you will still have the feelings of it even though your ventricular beat should be regulated by your PM.
I had a PVI in 2006. Had it done under sedation only. It took a long time but time flew by as I was in woozey-lala land. Mine worked immediately (not always the case) and it stopped the AF for 8 years. I couldn't even feel my heart for years afterwards, it was wonderful. Then got a bit of AF back which is being dealt with by drugs this time.
I also had a 2nd ablation about 3 years ago but that was aborted before they actually ablated for other reasons. That was done under GA. Again it was no problem at all and I've a third if offered one although whilst the drugs are working I doubt they will.

I had mine done last August, under conscious sedation, took a few hours but the drugs helped with that! Do as Bob says and read other posts. It does take time for your heart toforgive you for doing "things" to it!
I still have ectopics and my cardio man said I'd get used to them.
Good luck hope all goes well for you.👍
