I had ablatiin in february, im now having skipped heart beats all day every day, its making me scared to go out on my own, im only on asprin for 6 wks, no other medication, im really scared, i also have niggle pain feelins in my chest somerimes, help

Sedgy, it is very common to have all kinds of funny things going on in your heart in the weeks/months following an ablation .

Could you not phone the arrhythmia nurse or hospital where you had your ablation for advice to help put your mind at rest ?

Thankyou yatsura, im going to ring the hospital tmrw, see if i can speak to someone, iv spoke to my dr, he said this is normal, but to ring the hospital anyway, im now having little sharp pains in the heart area now and again, usually when i do anything, gosh im worried, even tho all these lovely comments on here reassured me, thanks all.

It will take at least three months for the heart to settle down and you will get these things for a while. These are called ectopic beats and not dangerous, just unpleasant.

Do speak to your arrhythmia nurse or EP as aspirin is not ideal and does little for stroke prevention,

People keep mentioning a arrhythmia nurse or ep, i dont have one, i had the procedure done, stayed in overnight then discharged, got to go back in april.

Hi Sedgy,

Sorry to hear about your problems. Bob/Yatsura have already covered important aspects post ablation. Please check your discharge paperwork in respect of medication. I am some what surprised that you have not been placed on a beta blocker and a antiarrhythmic drug to help keep your heart calm while you recover from your procedure, just a thought.

Hi Sedgy, I just had my three month post ablation check up and though I have lots of skipped beats and little heart quivers and wobbles the cardiologist said all is fine as long as they don't last for more than a few seconds. If you only had your ablation in February then I'm not surprised about the niggly pains but it is a good idea to check with the EP team if you can.

have to say v surprised re Aspirin - this is not recommended I would get this checked right away.

Hi Sedgy, I'm still getting those ectopics and the odd burble a year on from the ablation, not great for the mind as it goes into overdrive but QoL is so much improved since pre-ablation and I'm not on any drugs. Just carry sotalol as a PIP

Thanks everyone, I don't have a ep nurse and nothing on discharge papers about Meds only aspirin, I go back in April for check up, these ectopic beats last all day for long periods on and off, I think I will take a trip to my own dr, I'm worried 24/7, all your comments make me more relaxed tho, o need to give up smoking too which is stressful xx

No don't be worried. You just might as well get the ball rolling and get cracking rather than waiting. You don't say when I. April but the end is 6.5 weeks away. Most GPs aren't likely to be able to do much except possibly give medicines and only some canorganise a holter monitor.

Hi I sympathise with your fear. I had an ablation last Mov and still get flutterings and palpitations . I strongly recommend you see your doctor to talk about your worry and fears - he should be able to help you - maybe prescribe something to calm things down a bit.

Hope you get some help as it is scary I know!

I was told by my ep that ablation sorts af out but does nothing for ectopics (extra heartbeats that feel like missed beats ). You may have had these pre ablation but not noticed them. They are completely innocent and just feel strange. Being worried will make it worse. Maybe a beta blocker will help calm everything and make you feel better.

Did anyone else suffer from small sharp stabbing pains in the heart area after their ablation procedure? I had mine done on the 13th feb this year and still getting them.

Sedgy you sound so full of anxiety about all this which i empathise with. Please try to stop worrying and think about positive things...like the fact that your quality of life will most likely vastly improve soon when things settle. I was also on aspirin for 6 weeks post ablation..it is not prescribed to prevent AF related stroke in this instance. We are not EPs on this forum so please have these enquiries answered by a specialist as people on this forum do not know your individual case and EPs have up to date knowledge about what to prescribe and when. My cousin is a coronary care researcher after being a senior nurse for many years and she said EP specialists are absolute experts in their field and do not take flippant risks . She said in her experience they are also passionate about their field of work. So...relax...remember you are healing and expect some wobbles which are totally normal post ablation. Get any concerns checked but try not to focus only on anxiety if that might be what you are doing?! I also had constant ectopics for approx 1 month and had a lot of bigemeny (a harmless rhythm but highly unpleasant)....i hated it..i hated the first month or two after ablation but life got better and things did settle. We have an amazing NHS..24/7 for any fears you need checked out. Best wishes and a cyber hug from me to you xx ps. I hated constant ectopics as much as i hate AF..it is so unpleasant when they are relentless but mine did settle and I'm certain yours will too..the ❤ doesn't like to be disturbed and yours just has been so it is natural it needs to heal xx

You can get any pains checked out in A and E or contact your GP in or out of hours for advice...i went to A and E a couple of times after my ablation for various reasons and was admitted to coronary care twice for a week..it just got a couple of things sorted for me. Don't suffer until April if you need things checked out or are concerned.
