I am on Warfarin have been on for a few years, levels good at between 2/3, I am on holiday, and went to get my INR's, and it is 1.9. Does anybody know if I add Warfarin to 3 twice a week to keep my levels to 2/3 again. Thanks for all reply's, appreciate that..

Self dosing can be successful but we should never tell you what to do. The odd tablet here and there may offset different diets and alcohol intake brought about on holidays but I question the need to worry overly. If your INR is normally good then I expect it will remain so once the holiday is over. Unless you are away for many weeks I don't even think I would have bothered testing. Depending on method the results may not be the same as you would get at home as blood draw is notoriously random. Coagucheck has more latent balance.

Thanks Bob, I'm in Malaysia for a month, hence the check, I am due for a Cardioversion when I get home, and they need my levels for a few weeks prior to the procedure. My levels are normal, between 2/3, but 13 hour flight also 7 hours difference , makes it very difficult to get the doses at the right time, I reckon I must have missed a dose, but. Sure it will catch up, will take 3 mg twice a week instead of my usual 2, sure it will adjust it then, thanks for your knowledge, appreciate that....
can whoever checked your INR not advise you?
I am in Malaysia, I got my INR from the laboratory, they give me the print out, but didn't need to see a doctor, I am sure if I remember, the lower INR means increase Warfarin, I am in two mg a day, so I reckon, if I use 3 twice a week so adjust, but was just checking! I will get it checked next week, and hopefully it will be back to 2/3. Thanks for the reply, appreciate it....
We had the same difficulty whilst in France. No problem getting the blood checked (well, a bit of a faff), but what to do then. My husband increased by 1/2 of 1 mcg and when we got home it was spot on. Not advising you to do this, just recounting our experience.
Yes, it is guess work, till you get the next week results, sure it will even out. Thanks a lot....
I'm on 8.5mg p.d. If I'm a bit low I just increase by 0.5mg for a week and retest. That's quite a large % for you so perhaps just for 2 days then test again.

I am only on 2 a day, my INR is always 2/3 ,but maybe missed a day with the traveling. 13 hours flying does nick you off a bit, but I'm sure it will be fine next week, the lab in Malaysia takes you blood, but have no idea how much to add or less , so it's a case fingers crossed, but I, feeling good, so that's the main thing. Thanks so much
Are you going travelling again? If so I'd highly recommend a Coaguchek. And I'd also recommend working out how you can self-manage (i.e. adjust your own dose). People who do self test and self manage get on much better with warfarin. I don't think a reading of 1.9 would affect your cardioversion. You actually get protected by warfarin within the range of 1.8-3.5.
Back to the Uk in two weeks,so hoping INR is back to normal by then. Thanks.
Ok, I went to get my INR, I increased Warfarin from 2 a day , one day at 3 , INR is now as it should be2.7. Happy about that.....
Mine last month was 2.2 then a few weeks after was 4.9 then week after was 2.9 then this week was 1.6 I am eating more now and mine should be 3.5 but I was on 2mg mon to Sunday now they put me back up to 2mg mon to fri then back on 3mg sat Sunday see if it helps I been fine with my INR till last month and they only just put it up for 6 months trail
It's a bummer, Lesley, I find increase my fluids ,a glass of water last thing before going to bed, seems to help, maybe wishing thinking, but I go with it ,having said that, I just have checked my pulse rate ,and it is racing on at 160, and me lying in bed.,if it's not one thing. It's another !!!!!
Yes they is always something think hope you are ok x
Yes Lesley, I am good, leaving tomorrow night from Malaysia, long 13 hour flight, but all night flight, here's hoping I sleep. I thought the intense heat would have given me AF problems, but only one episode,so happy about that. The answer is drinking lots of fluids, that's what I have done. Next hurdle is this Amioderine, not looking forward that, then on for Cardioversion.
Yes, I am PAF, but I was averaging 120 down to 100, what I was saying,I didn't need to Visit A&E,that's is everybody's worse nightmare, being hospitalised when on holiday. Unfortunately, still have to face Cardioversion after my three doses of Amioderine....
