Results of my MRI scan through which show Ischaemic heart failure with moderate to severe LV impairment. + persistent AF with only brief restoration of sjnus rhythm after DC conversion. The good news is that my consultant thinks that my condition can be managed without resort to surgery. The other good news is that I have progressed to Paroxymal AF and am now experiencing long periods - 9/10 days in Sinus and then brief periods - 1/2 days in AF. The odd thing is that when I was in persistent AF I was not really aware of the condition; now that I am in and out I know precisely when the change occurs and whilst in AF I feel completely rubbish!! - back in Sinus I am like a new person!

I am very fortunate in having a Heart Failure Nurse who is monitoring my condition. She has now raised the Ramipril to 7.5 mg with the intention of raising this again to 10 mg. When my GP was asked to prescribe for this change he called me in saying that he was worried that my blood pressure might drop too low. I have to wonder whether doctors don't like the idea of a nurse calling the tune!!

Has anyone with paroxymal AF out there been prescribed anything to try to maintain the sinus rhythm?

Rhythm control drugs can be prescribed but many are contra indicated if there are other heart issues.

I don't think it is a question of drs not liking the nurse.... but the dr has the reponsability in any case for prescriptions.
