It was awful bad luck to have a virus so soon post-ablation. Coughing always affects your whole system, never mind a healing heart.

Your heart has been burned internally. It needs at least 3 months to heal and you will not be able to judge the effectiveness of the ablation until January.

You need a bag of menthol eucalyptus sweets, rest and patience.

Best wishes.

thank you for your reply. Just anxious, as often AFibbers are, but your responses are very comforting and much appreciated.

Infections can always upset things but as I am sure they will (should ) have told you, it takes at least three months or more for the heart to heal and it is far too soon to think about judging the success or otherwise. Try not to worry and get better.

As usual is not the answer. Each person has different experience. In your case can only say Maybe, for you.

If you don't feel good with any AF, go to a&e. Don't be upset by this occurence. It generally takes 2 or more ablations to succeed. See it as a learning curve, one step in the RIGHT direction. As the paramedic said to me at 5am a year after my second ablation, "minor upset". At the time I thought he was being funny, but in the end,

How Right He Was.

It will all work out. Above all else, Don't Panic.

All will be well now you've started on this difficult but correct road to healing. Look forward to whatever comes because ablations are the Best way forward.

I am unfortunately in a & e as I've gone back into a fib after my ablation 5 weeks ago. I'm wired up, had blood tests and X ray, small dose of bisoprolol awaiting a cardio version . To say I'm not a happy bunny is an undetstatement . This came about after I bought an alivecor and my bpm was 80/160. Popped into the GP who promptly gave me an ecg , and here I am ! So all I can say is , if you're not happy , get yourself checked out

Do not despair! Don't feel it hasn't been a success because you can still find yourself much better off than you were before. Hope you will soon be in NSR and back home.

Don't despair. I lasted less than 72 hours in sinus rhythm after my ablation. My EP had said that in MY case there was no chance it would work first time, just a question as to the number of weeks (he had booked me my review appointment for 6 weeks after ablation and hoped I would make that). Mind you I had asked him to be blunt and honest about success chances!!!!

Some aspects will have improved and it is possible some will get worse but whatever gets thrown in your way just think about the fact that if you don't start on the ablation journey you can never get to the end!!!!

I had infrequent AF before my ablation but the episodes were getting more intense and difficult to control. After the ablation I had several short bouts of AF, far more than previously, but none which my medication didn't sort. I was pretty despondent but after a few weeks they subsided and I have been AF free for last four months now. The procedure does upset your system and has a number of other potential side effects. By all means do consult your medical professionals if in doubt but equally don't think the ablation hasn't worked. As others have said give it a at least three months.

Unfortunately one problem with ablations is they are done in hospitals and I bet the recovery ward was where you caught the bug which is probably the real cause of your heart being erratic as it would have been with or without AF.

I'm sure it will clear up soon and after that your heart can get back to healing.
