Using antibiotics.

Hi everyone. As we are going into the season for coughs and sneezes and all manner of infectious things, it is worth bearing in mind the effects of antibiotics on AF sufferers. I saw a GP last night with an awful chest/bronchial infection. She prescribed Amoxicillin 55omg 3 times a day for a week. she made a point of telling me to have an INR check in 10/14 days time, as my reading is likely to go up and may need regulating. If you do have to go on ABs it seems a good thing to do.

I shall now get back to my hot bottle, cough sweets and the odd co-codomol!!

David

Poor you with your chest infection David, take care of yourself and thanks for the info. Do you have the flu jab or not?

The need for seven courses of antibiotics for an eye infection while on Warfarin was one of the things that drove me to switching to Rivaroxaban. Maintaining a stable INR above 2 was difficult on antibiotics. According to my cardiologist, infections need to be managed aggressively in people with heart problems to avoid endocarditis. My GP would not initially give me a strong antibiotic because she knew it would affect INR. The weaker antibiotics just didn't do the job.

Oh dear......blanket, hot water bottle and TV time for you! Take care.

Just a reminder David, ABs are wonderful things but not good for gut bacteria. Take advice/take Probiotics now and after the AB's finish.

Over the last 5 years I have had ABs for tooth issues and Lyme's Disease and now very poor gut bacteria - taking a long time to rectify.

Hi David , hope the bed rest did the trick .

Seems another good reason for being on the Rivaroxaban.

I really do hate taking antibiotics always seem to upset the digestion . Ive heard it said that live yoghurt helps calm things down, it replaces the good stuff the ABs kill off

Been a couple of years or so since I had to take them when I had a bout of bronchitis .

Following a blood test last year I got a call to say the antibiotics were ready for collection no explanation. So after protesting they did a further check and seemed clear. So I never did take them.

Might see if I can get a flue jab this year.

You should qualify for a free one from your GP.

Thanks constabule - but still hacking and not sleeping well. Today will be three days into the ABs so should start seeing an improvement soon. Stomach gurgling and complaining so will take your advice on yoghurt. Thanks.
