Hi colliedog1

When I was prescribed Bisoprolol 2.5 mg I was out of breath when walking uphill. Even when the dose was halved I still suffered. Bisoprolol seems to affect quite a few people on this forum . After 5 months I changed medication to Diltiazem and found this to be much better.

Why not have a chat with your Cardio or GP with regard to changing your dose or medication to see if it suits you better.

Hope you can soon get it sorted.

Hi Colliedog

Breathlessness is one of the most common effects of AF, but it can be made worse by beta blockers and other drugs, you can ask your medical advisor if you can change to another drug to see if that makes you feel better. Personally I was better on Diltiazem, but it's not the same for everyone

Be well

Ian

this is the 2nd similar reply. I shall follow through by asking my Cardiologist about changing meds. Thank you!

Hi Colliedog...yea I'm on 7.5 of Bispropolol daily..been on it since my cardioversion bout a month ago..was originally on 2.5 but that didn't stop the flutters...def breathless to start with on the higher dose, but slowly my system seems to be getting used to it...but as other AF peeps say,it seems trial and error to get the correct combo of meds to suit each individual...at the end of the day ,I tend to worry about the long term effects of these medications, and are they reduced as time goes on,and does the tolerance level decrease the longer you stay on them...or as an AF sufferer, are you a statistic on a prescription pad?....just passing thoughts as I ponder my daily intake....Good Luck Collie....Terry..

Seems the Bisoprolol is a bit of a bummer with regard breathlessness. Can't understand why I was not taken off it earlier. Even a gentle slope caused a problem.

The others have mentioned Diltiazem. Suits me better too.

Hope things improve.

As Beancounter says common to AF not just the drug. I was put on Flecainide only and experience that, a bit less now 15 months in. I never pushed it just took a few breaks and found a very light aluminium Nordic walking pole a great help.

I think that for most of us there are so many factors that apply and also these are not constant. Some days I end up walking a total of 7 or 8km and then another lucky if I achieve 2km. The heat has made it harder and worse. When I had a chest X-ray six months ago the radiographer said that I have very long and large lungs so much so he had to take two X-Rays to get length in!!!! I am 6ft but all my height is in my body (I only have inside leg of 31ins). However told that this means it is easier for oxygen to enter the blood stream. After I had my ablation it was easier and SpO2 levels went up and remained higher even though I went back into AF less than 72 hours later.

Am on 7.5mg bisoprolol

Sounds very familiar. IT was such a barrier to doing my hiking/walking and general daily stuff, and exacerbated when my bisoprolol was increased to 5mg. It's horrible having to plan when you go up the stairs because if you forget something and have to go back up, it was like you climbed a mountain
