A bank, think they said Halifax, is going to introduce 'heart beat recognition' technology for customers to access their accounts? Because, they say, everybody has a unique recognisable heart beat???? Don't think that would apply to most of us! As they say 'lol'!

I must admit to thinking exactly the same when I heard that this morning.
But as always with news stories a little digging shows a slightly different story.
It's based around a wristband which the wearer has to wear all day, the band itself has been (as I understand it) also linked to you mobile phone, and has effectively "mapped" not merely your heartbeat, but your ECG (Little like an alivecor I think).
The idea is that by doing this, no-one else can use that wristband to get into the security rooms or bank accounts or whatever.
But I do agree that there are lots of unanswered questions, such as what happens if you have an AF episode while wearing one, and do our arrythmias actually change our ECG signature on a daily basis?
Interesting, but I suspect will probably end up as a gimick, but I can see uses for it in security buildings for example, where it would be difficult to fake an ECG, not so sure about banki accounts.
Yep I have heard of this technology previously but wasn't aware it was being used already. I had a chuckle imagining having an AF episode while trying to withdraw money and the inability to do so pushing the AF even further up the scale!
But
There is an underlying unique rhythm we all have which is not affected by our wonderful AF's - I assume this is the "beat" they are monitoring for security.
I thought it sounded odd but when I have been fitted with a Holter monitor which I have worn for a week or more they have checked my heart rate and pattern with the monitor I am to wear - they said they did this so they would know if someone else wore the monitor during the test. I can only assume they are being truthful with me, but I still am not sure how they could tell as my heart rate can go all over the show!
