Hi, i have my EP Tests coming up in 3 weeks time, am I right in thinking that if an ablation is neccessary the consultnt will do it there and then rather than have to return at a later date?

EP Studies
Hi Bevaalaar
Not usually an ablation is usually booked well in advance with a hospital admission. Sometimes they admit you for a test going into the heart from the femoral vein, and very occasionally they will carry out procedures there and then, but usually that is stents and such like rather than a full ablation I think.
Not usually I think is the answer, much more usual for the tests then another appointment to discuss them and treatment options, and then booked in for the ablation.
Depends what you mean by tests, if you mean ECGs and echocardiograms, then certainly not.
Be well
Ian
Not very likely. When my ep said OK to ablation there was a waiting time of about 3 months (in London). Then for 4 weeks prior to the ablation I had to have blood tests to ensure INR was within range. So expect a wait and good luck.
Thanks beancounter, the "tests" i refer to are the EP ones, which, I am led to believe does involve catheters passed through groin and the heart is then forced into AF to find out where the problem is occuring. i find it all very confusing because it is a hospital admission - onto a ward, with a bed, and i'm sure the consultant said depending on results, a decision would be made there and then as to wether to go ahead and treat with catheter ablation. Maybe it differs from hospital to hospital?
Do you mean an Electrophysiology study (EP study) Bevaalaar? If so I am having one on Tuesday with a view to seeing where my SVT is located and blitz (ablate) it/them at the same time. I am then to come off meds for a period of time to see if my SVT has been sorted (not coming off anticoagulation though apart from stopping ALL meds in advance of the procedure for a few days).
If you mean your EP has referred you for general cardiac tests like ecgs, echo etc etc then no but I suspect you mean an EP study.
I could be wrong and can only say what I am undergoing. Of course if they can't find it they can't do it. I wont be out of the woods though as I may still need a PVI ablation later depending on the outcome of my procedure on Tuesday.
My route was consultation with EP having taken along tons of data from my local hospital. The above route was recommended and then a 7 week wait for the procedure.
Hope this helps. Mine is in London.
Hi meadfoot, yes it is for EP studies, i have already had ecg, scans and MRI,
Hi , If I may ask was the EP study successful in findings what is wrong? Did you do the ablation too? Did you had any problems since then ? I am asking because I have an EP study too as I have some signs of PSVT and an EP study was recommended with a possible ablation.
